App to transfer text to an Android phone

  • So not coding-related but app-related...

I use the "memo" feature of my Sammy phone for shopping lists - I can copy text from an SMS or Skype message and pop it in a memo.

However, there doesn't seem to be any "send to memo" functionality to my phone that I've discovered. I can send memo text via bluetooth to my laptop, but not the other way around.

What I'd like is to take some text file from a laptop, send via bluetooth to my phone and have the phone accept it as a new Memo.

Just tried Kies... that's taken the best part of an hour to install and now is complaining I don't have any Kies Air compatible kit. Seems way too much of an overkill for what I'm after.

Any android users here able to help out?

  • Forget about Kies, it is one of the worst pieces of software ever written. I would look for a memo application that also has a companion app on Windows/Linux/OS X and syncs it data through Dropbox or a cloud solution. Then you can just write your shopping list on whatever is at hand. Some suggestions: Evernote, Remember the Milk, Wunderlist.

See... I don't understand why I need dropbox or a "cloud solution" to have a laptop transfer text over USB (or bluetooth) to a mobile app.

I'll give those a trial, thanks.

    Herd of cattle, yes.
    Herd of elephants, yes.
    Herd of antelope, yes.
Herd of this application, no. Do they migrate south in the winter?

  • I actually use QR Codes. I'll generate a QR code for the text I want to copy from the PC, scan it, then paste into a memo or whatever else it's supposed to be.

  • I was looking at a QR code he other day, which is a terribly rare occasion, and for a very brief interval of time I found myself wondering why BenL's cat face wasn't in there.
