It is the process of completing or the time needed to complete a task, especially one involving receiving something, processing it, and sending it out again.

It posts short, innocuous messages based on keywords that look just legitimate enough to not be instantly deleted. It does this either:
1) Build up a sufficient post-count to pass a "trusted" threshold. Some forums require at least X posts before you can put in hyperlinks, or post a large number of messages, or not have your posts held for moderation. Once it passes that threshold, spamdump.
2) To lay down a large number of posts in multiple threads, and have them vetted by moderators and ignored. Then, the bot will go in and edit all the messages to be spammy links. Some forums still allow users to edit posts days or weeks after the fact.
It is also possible the initial posts were made by a human instead of a bot. Either the spammer, or someone working for them via sweatshop or mechanical turk. Look around those micro-job websites, and there's plenty for "make X posts on this forum and you will be paid $0.05 each".
So basically, someone or something trying to fly under the ban-radar, in order to drop a spam load.
