Today's dose of WTF brought to you by our QA department

  • QA: I can't mute this app.

ME: Yes, there is currently no mute button in this app.

QA: But I want to mute this app!

ME: You will have to make a ticket for developers to work on that.

QA: That will take too long. We should be able to mute our browsers, can you fix that for me?

    ^WTF

TRWTF: There will likely never be a mute button for the app, because it is being ported from a mobile version of the app, which didn't have a mute button either, which was reskinned from yet another mobile app which never had a mute button to begin with.

    Stop. You've made a mistake.

The correct response is "Yes you can, just go to [insert OS-specific instructions for changing the volume of a program]"

  • TRWTF is browsers still not having per-tab volume controls.

Chrome recently added a little icon that shows if a tab is making noise. In most cases, if you have more than one tab making noise, you don't want one of them open.

  • Considered Harmful

I think I'd prefer, "this tab is trying to play audio, what would you like to do?" "Allow once," "hunt down the developer responsible, burn down his house, murder his family, then flay him alive," "never allow."

But I want to watch grumpy cat. Where is grumpy cat?

    No idea.

Apparently that feature's not yet ready for prime time. I tried a tab with a Youtube video and I got a little play symbol. Then I opened a new tab on MSN and ran some random video that was linked on the front page, and no icon.

Right before doing that I did an About Chrome which reported 31.0.1650.63 m and said it was up to date.

You mean, the little play symbol that YouTube specifically inserts into its own page title when playing a video, that has absolutely nothing to do with Chrome?

Only if the UI is presented like this:

"this tab is trying to play audio, what would you like to do?"

    ( )Allow once
( ) hunt down the developer responsible, burn down his house, murder his family, then flay him alive
          [  ] also, never allow

No, because I didn't know about that, but apparently yes, because that's what it was.

But thanks for being a pedantic dickweed and not pointing out what the Chrome indicator actually is.

This was even less helpful than Zylon's post. You don't even get a point for not posting one of your trademark stupidly-large images, because you could've cropped out the irrelevant stuff.

No, TRWTF is that you didn't lean over and shut off the speakers. Let them know that the "mute" option is built into their PC.
