  • I can't even imagine the series of WTFs that led to this screenshot from the indie game Anodyne:

Needless-to-say, mouse resizing of the window is disabled-- but the window does change size (one pixel at a time) in response to the arrow keys.

Even weirder? After you press "C", the game opens full screen!

  • Are they doing some WTF way of figuring something else?  Like draw the colored section in the box using some framework that doesn't tell them how many pixels it covers and then use the window to figure out what the screen size actually is?  I mean that would be a WTF but at least it would explain the box.

  • If I wanted to know if people typically use the regular arrow keys or the numeric keypad arrows because I'm planning a huge update of the keyboard shortcuts in my game, that would be the #3 technique in my list. I won't disclose #1 or #2 because I have a patent pending.

Yeah, sounds like some sort of calibration thing. There has to be a better way.

  • When you create a window on Windows, the window size you specify includes the borders.
Perhaps they didn't know about the API function to adjust for this (AdjustWindowRectEx) and they didn't think to Google it.

A more likely explanation is they use some sort of AmusementSoft®™ Gameccellerator Eazy Game Builder®©™™ 4.7™, which was coded by a guy with only 3 fingers on his right hand, who worked as a railroad builder back in the day, but decided to come out of retirement and work on his old passion: products with © in the name.

  • So what happens if you press C while there's still some black in the screen?

    It formats your hard drive.
