Apparently, there was an error.

  • I decided to click OK. Figured it was the best thing to do.

Congratulations! I would've never thought of that. Good job at resolving those errors, keep it up.

  • Let me guess... Open with? I ran into this not too long ago, the solution was deleting some registry keys. Of course, I can't remember what those keys were now. Windows got confused about how to open certain types of files with a certain program. In my particular case it was VS 2010 and .html files.

Annoyingly, I just double-clicked a .xlsx file. Happens now and again when I do that. Double click a second time, and it works fine.

    It's a gift.

  • My Excel generally forgets the path of a file I opened when double-clicking and tells me it can't find the file I just opened.

Only when Excel isn't running in advance, though.

That was the case now. I'm actually not much of a Windows guy, really, I've been running Linux at home for years. I don't always grok Windows.

Having said that, I'm not the sort to go "Microsoft stuff is bad, everybody should use Linux" because for some reason, opening a web site can cause a kernel panic (my guess is some combo of Flash and shitty video drivers), and I have to reinstall pulseaudio every few days because it can't find my USB audio device. I'd rather have a few dialogs like this every few weeks. I should probably just get a new PC really, maybe even with Windows on it. My PC is like 7-8 years old.

That, but in my case only when opening directly from Firefox's downloaded files list.

  • Is this a Markov thread??

That's an interesting thing, but unfortunately, like many in the comments, I have not enabled the offending checkbox.

I was expecting that the 1024x768 in the url indicated that they resize images on the fly, but it's apparently not the case.

I think it's time I switch to Box, they have a bigger free tier anyways. If I'm to get something for free, I want the best.

Bigger is not necessarily better. Or so my girlfriend tells me.

Not sure if she's critical or trying to be nice.

Or maybe she has a tiny parking spot.

Are you implying that if it's huge and needs machines to operate, it's a handicapped spot?

    ...

Jesus fuck, what about those "Family Parking Spots"?

Here a version of the Aristocrats tweaked for most people on this forum:

So this guy and his crew of web developers go to California to pitch their startup idea to Sequoia Capital. They get in the room with a Sequoia partner and fire up their Dell laptop and epson VGA 1024x768 projector. On the screen the Sequoia partner can see Firefox loading a web page. As the page takes a long time to load, one of the developers explains: "the backend is written in Java but there is also a lot of Go web services so it can scale pretty well". The partner looks at him suspiciously and asks: "but is it Big Data ready?", to which the developer replies: "but yes, it's powered by Oracle".

Then the web page is loaded and immediately it's obvious that it contains no rounder-corner buttons and that the font is Verdana. The Sequoia partner asks the lead developer to click View Source and OMG as he suspected the html layout is done with TABLEs AND TDs instead of semantically-correct DIVs! As the developer scrolls in the View Source window the partner can see that the web page is using Dojo instead of jQuery.

At this point another developer steals the spotlight and announce that the web page has a nice API that can be accessed from Excel.

Flabbergasted, the Sequoia partner sits back in his chair and ask: "how do you call this peculiar web page?" to which the lead developers replies: "the Aristocrats".

I never legitimately laughed at The Aristocrats, but I did at this.

I simply don't have problems with pulseaudio since it released (before release I got some). And I have tried it on several computers, with diverse distros and architectures (but no Ubuntu, maybe it's that). I simply don't uderstand where all those problems come from.

Linux does not fail to find my sound hardware since alsa become mainstream... But just a week ago, the volume widget of my main PC got uninstalled by an update.
