  • ['German-like-language' spam removed, but thread kept for replies - PJH]

  • German is such a romantic language, as shown in this scene from the IT Crowd.

  • Sorry, I don't know how to German :'(

  • In all seriousness, mods, I took some German in high school and although I don't really get this post I'm pretty sure it's spam. It certainly has nothing to do with software development and/or WTFs.

  • I am a native german and that post contains german words, but the grammar is totally fucked. Also, I cannot identify any meaningful parts whatsoever.

No different from regular spam in 'English' then?

  • No, not really. But it was worse than the average spam....

It looked just like the regular spam we get on here. Which is why toon's comment above was largely unnecessary.

There are many more romantic german words on Youtube

  • German might sound unromantic, but let's be honest: Portuguese is by far the worst-sounding language.

    Hey, I resent that!

  • Don't you just hate it when people confuse German with Dutch?

A friend of mine told me about this one time, back in high school, when he was dating a German exchange student.  Apparently she was really cool and all, but it bugged him the way she would always try and say sweet things to him in German when they were alone together, because it sounded really harsh and not-at-all-romantic.  He said it would have been totally different if she was from Spain or France, but German... just didn't do anything for him.

It was up for quite some time, and it obviously still hasn't been taken down (seeing as you're reading this sentence). So I, for one, am not convinced my comment was unnecessary. Either the mods really like spam, or they don't realize there's a spam post on here.

Perhaps you'd like to stop talking bollocks or point to where the spam is?

I honestly didn't mean to bitch, I didn't mean to come across that way. I wasn't trying to be a dick about the spam still being up (as I thought it was), I was addressing the notion that my comment was unnecessary. I'm well aware that you mods probably do this for free in your spare time which is why I replied in the first place, notifying you guys of the spam, figuring the word "mods" would get your attention. I'm only just now realizing that you've edited the spam away (sorry for being dense about that), but it wasn't edited out when I posted the comment.

This post had been up for over 13 hours, spam and all, which is, I repeat, quite some time, considering the usual swiftness with which spam gets removed on here. Not saying that the wait is bad on the part of the mods, but I noticed that nobody else was saying that this was a spammy post so I figured that I'd better let someone know, especially since most of us are American or British. You see, I did not, at the time, think it far fetched to assume that the mods hadn't realized that this is not some German trying to post a WTF in German and simply being really bad at it. So yes, I thought and still think that my comment was necessary.

Also, just now noticing the "Report Abuse" link. More density on my part...

Portuguese sounds like Spanish spoken by a deaf person.

Funny, though as someone who actually speaks Spanish, my take on it is a little different.  Portuguese writing looks like really badly-written Spanish, but the spoken language sounds, to me at least, like someone who can't make up their mind whether they're speaking Spanish or French.

Apart from the obvious answer... why does this link take you to a compose screen and not just flag it for mod attention?

Or is hitting the link then "Post" without bothering to add further details sufficient to flag up spam?

I would just assume it's badly designed, like the rest of Community Server.

If you see that screen it means that at least 3 people in the top 50 contributors have reported one of your posts as spam in the last 12 months. It's a very basic version of reputation-based privileges like those on Slashdot or SO.

If you believe this was a mistake you can request a removal of that flag by sending a note to inbox@worsethanfailure.com or PM a TDWTF sysadmin.

    It's okay. I know a little German.

Hey, we brought you the word "embarass"! And possibly "banana"!

    ...Yeah, I got nothing.

I assume you are talking about European Portuguese accent, btw.

Personally, I think from a strict pronunciation point of view it kind of sounds like Russian. It believe immigrants from Eastern Europe tend to have less trouble losing their natice accents.

You need at least one character in that box, but yes - hitting the link, putting an 'x' in the body and clicking Post is sufficient to flag up spam. We get a link to the original spam, along with the actual post, automatically appended to the report

Example of a report (I read the forum via email, so this is how I see them) - all that was submitted by the reporter was "more spam for you":
