Google Talk and my preferences

  • Google Talk comes complementary (and like most of the Big G's services, compulsory) with GMail. Because I like to chat to people by passing air through my throat instead of hammering a keyboard, my default settingfor my availability in Talk is Invisible.

Now this little gem caught my eye:
"Oops! You are not invisible because you're logged into Google Talk from another client, device, or location that doesn't support invisibility."

Anyone care to guess why their own app on their own OS (I suspect one of my Android tablets) does not fully support said app's features?

I don't know how Google managed to do this (maybe they borrowed some of Apple's magic dust) but for some reason otherwise intelligent, educated people use their products without understanding or caring how little control they have over them. Meanwhile Microsoft stuff (like Outlook.com) is totally free from the privacy-invading "features" found in Google and let users turn things on/off easily... yet for some reason many people say that Microsoft is the Evil Company.

Google products were a piece of shit from day 1 and have been made worse with every release (down to the idiotic icons or the broken Gmail reply box). TRWTF is using those products.

  • Google Talk and Hangouts are not the same software. Google Talk spoke XMPP and supported most features that an IM client supported. Google Talk allowed non @google.com IM users to talk to you. Hangouts is Google's IM Walled Garden. It is coincidence that messages recieved by Google Talk are displayed in Hangouts, and vice-versa.

The group responsible for the abomination that is Hangouts is called Babel. Send them a nice note if Hangouts sucks for you. Ensure that you ask for an ETA on the Google Talk shutdown.

  • ♿ (Parody)

Bah. Just be an intolerable person like the rest of us and you won't have to worry about being "invisible."

One does not simply change email address.

One does not simply change email address.

Changing your email address should never be a big concern, especially if you are using a free email service. It's not like the Nobel Foundation will give up on sending you a Nobel Prize because the @gmail.com address they have on file does not work.

Even if you have a relative that went on a safari in Kenya but got kidnapped by Somali raiders and your Gmail address is the only way they have to send their demands, you can simply configure Gmail to forward emails.

People who cling to email addresses are tedious.

  • I am TRWTF.

Tell me about it. I know several people who won't change ISP because that would change their email address. Get a domain name already!

    1) Speech to text.

    2) No one here is "people".

Maybe he has one of those new ergonomic keyboards that are operated by tibetian throat singing or wall noise?

That took long for someone to figure out... Yes I'm here, but only because I can't speak to you verbally. I'd prefer the latter, it's a necessary evil.

Also, I choose to use this forum. I did not choose to have an IM client integrated in my email (because I also have a telephone mounted on top of my mailbox?), an IM client that then fails because of its own stupidity.

    1) The back cover explicitly states there are only 4 Michael Keatons, not 7 (presumably 1 original and 3 clones)

    2) Thus the front cover, and you, lie.

    3) This movie also uses the term "xeroxed" without capitalizing the X. The movie is part of the problem. You are spreading it. Feel bad.

    4) INTERACTIVE MENUS!

IIRC, 1 original, 2 copies and 1 copy of a copy. The latter later became known as BlakeyRat.@Lorne Kates said:

There are 8 Keatons in that picture, not 7.

Due to devaluation of the Keaton, it now takes 8 Keatons to equal the value of 4 Keatons in 1996.

Well, thanks! I'm just as amazed as you are, it just kinda happened. So keep trying, people, and maybe YOU will win this prestigious award in November!

That's only about an APR of 4.2%, which isn't too bad.
