Today's XKCD

  • is spot on. I've noticed that real estate listing sites (including one where my condo for sale is currently shown) do this a lot.

  •  What is he talking about?

Silly Randall Munroe. Don't you guys realize websites are designed to extract money from businesses to web design agencies, and not for customers to use? Fancy transition effects sell (websites).

I can't stand it. Consumers want speed and instant data. But companies think the more flash and pomp, the more they'll sell, so we sell them ridiculously flashy sites like that. Ew.

  • It'd be even better if he'd put it in a lightbox.

  • This will come in handy during my next argument with our graphic designer.

  • Even though this thread wouldn't make sense after the switch, I'm kinda surprised that Rosie hasn't shown up yet.

There's actually been quite a few of these that haven't been switched. My guess is that it was Morb's doing; he hasn't been around for a while.

Yes! Just print it out and bring it to your next meeting--(s)he'll see the point.

  • I made a simple plugin for my company's CMS that allows users to make slideshows like that. First thing my boss did was have us, the whole company, come up with ideas for how to use that plugin to display other types of content. Nobody had any ideas because, obviously, a slideshow is not a good way to display anything except large pictures. It still comes up every few months, and every time I have to use the same "a slideshow is an inherently bad display for content you want people to actually see". Nobody waits for a slideshow, yet people like my boss (and the majority of our clients) think that they're trendy and buzz worthy so every site should have at least one. One site was even going to have several until we convinced the client that was a bad idea. I hate the internet sometimes.

Not sure if troll or really, really stupid.

Why don't they make the picture spin as well? That'll attract users for sure!

    No. it wasn't (just) Morbs.

  • You guys are changing your avatars. That's making me really confused.

This post is about the xkcd strip, it think the mods replacing xkcd comics was a response to multiple 'relevevant xkcd' posts in just about every thread; morbs, who hates xkcd, would continue the practice long after the 'problem' was fixed because he also has a rosie fettish.

Considering that miketheliar has slain blakeyrat, he is entitled to taking the avatar as his trophy.

Morbs doesn't hate xkcd. Morbs hates people who assume nobody has seen xkcd on a tech forum.

    But also, Morbs hates xkcd.

If an xkcd comic gets the point across better than a written message, why can't I use it?

People just hate xkcd for the same reason they hate Justin Bieber or reddit memes: because it's popular.

There's no accounting for taste. Morbs hates xkcd yet loves Seinfeld. And especially on TDWTF, you have to take the troll factor into account, because we're all trolls. But not all of us have Chromebooks or shirts with pink stripes or a My Little Pony Fetish.

  • @boomzilla said:

    My Little Pony Fetish.

Girls who like GI Joe are hot (as long as they are not fat* or ugly). Guys who like My Little Pony are weird.

There is only one conclusion: male culture is superior.

    * if you are a member of one of those ethnic groups that for some reason are attracted to fat women, you may disregard that part of the sentence.

Really? My conclusion was "potato chips are mostly oil and salt".

Ok, for those of you missing Rosie, this was going to be the next one I was going to use:

(Hoping that img url isn't a short-lasting cache...)

  • Exit to Eden. That's what she did to me. Although to be fair Dan Aykroyd and the second shrink from Monk helped her.

It's a great cure for wanting to see Rosie O'Donnell, though.

You fail thread titles forever, Nexzus.

Fool. According to Ben L, "Today" is a deterministic function because [insert off-topic golang link here].
