An early morning request for help

  • As an IT Department for a finance business, we do get some odd (business related) requests sometimes from the users, but this call - not from a staff member - was great.

We came in this morning, and one of the guys noticed we had a voicemail hit at 2am this morning, from a number in the same town - A bit unusual, and probably a wrong number... and then we listened to the message.

It was a desperate call for help from a local resident (who sounded either drunk or high, no idea which, if either!) who gave his full name and phone number (which was his real number as it came up on the caller ID as well), and requested that....

Please can you call me back so I can learn IT. Erm, thanks.

Why am I thinking he thinks that...

    • Everything to do with IT can be taught in one quick phone call
    • A corporate IT department is going to help teach a random stranger
    • We're actually going to call him back (I'm not, but it is sooooo tempting!)

  • Sounds like the following sequence happened:

    1) Someone from you dept. gave his business card to a girl at the bar while trying to hit on her.

    2) Said girl leaves the card on the table.

    3) Drunk guy #1, Drunk guy #2 and a few of their drunk friends take over the table (fill in cleaver names like the classic "Bob, Alice and Eve" from security discussions).

    4) Drunk guy #1 goes to the bathroom but foolishly leaves his phone behind.

    5) Drunk friends find the business card, convince Drunk Guy #2 to call the IT support line from Drunk Guy #1's phone and pretend to be him.

Be happy your IT support line can't recieve SMS messages or cell phone pictures!

You've never named one of your knives?  I mean normally it's only for ones that you use everyday, but still...

  • I named mine 'Fingerspitzengefühl'. As it is quite the sensation indeed when it cuts into your finger tips.
