Art WTFage (Todd Goldman)

  • Slashdot reports that after Todd Goldman was attacked for (alleged *cough cough*) plagarism, he sicced his lawyers on those making the claims. One comment points out this Penny Arcade post about how Todd called Dave Kelly a pedophile (now there's libel for ya). . .

I also understand that Wikipedia's been served with legal notices on the matter as well.

  • For those not familiar with the story... you can see there is clearly no plagarism.  I mean, the original didn't have "TODD" in the corner, did it? :)

  • Considered Harmful

What's worse is that the plagiarized works aren't even as good as the originals.

Also, people seem to have a hard time spelling plagiarism (seen above as both "plagerized" and "plagarism.")

  • How the hell do you serve Wikipedia with a legal notice?  I mean the people who edit it are everywhere, and none of them provide mailing addresses, so where would you send the registered letter?  The hosting company's server room?

You send it to the Wikimedia Foundation: the guys who own the webservers and pay for the bandwidth.

The Wikimedia Foundation, who runs the servers.

Wikipedia has a pretty good process for handling this sort of cases though: 1) Reduce the article to stub (if someone really asks for it), 2) rebuild by referring to reliable sources, and 3) thus have an article that has no libellous material and still shows the highly inconvenient truths. =)

  • I don't understand why people have to get so sanctimonious about this. Okay, the guy's an unabashed dick and plagiarist, and has been since long before this incident. Being all self-righteous about it isn't going to make the guy apologize, and it does a lot less to sway peoples' opinions than cracking a simple joke about it.
