Hearing test over the phone
-
"More than 150,000 people have checked their hearing via a telephone test, a charity says."
Do I even need to explain the WTF here? I hope not, because if I do, I have no idea where to begin.
-
Well that's great... phones handle frequencies of, what, 1-4KHz?
So it's a very limited hearing test - a "can you hear speech"
test. The WTF is that it's being sold as a "hearing test".
-
I just did the test - I was right but it's better than I thought.
They play someone speaking sets of 3 digits, which you then have to
type in, with white noise playing in the background. The signal
to noise ratio varies (seems random) throughout the test.
However, it's a bit disappointing, it doesn't give you an exact score
- just "your hearing is within the normal range". I guess
this is to stop people abusing the service to try and compete for
higher scores.

Not only, it also measure:
- your ability to type a not-so-random sequence of digits in the right order
- your intelligence
- your wealth
- your ability to type a not-so-random sequence of digits in the right order
