Community server is more shitty than usual this week

  • That's a screenshot of a post made by a spammer. Yes, I have reported it.

The page loaded without any links and without any buttons. I refreshed the page, and LITERALLY FIVE MINUTES LATER (17:51), the page loaded and I was able to report the spammer.

How the hell do you manage to remove all semblance of usefulness dynamically? Keep in mind that this is CS we're talking about. They're not evil, just really really stupid. And evil.

Also noticed the spammer couldn't make up their mind between "false" and "fake".

  • Apparently you reported it, but I never got emailed. Interesting.

The loading problem was probably just the server or some network connection having indigestion. It happens pretty frequently if you pay attention. This isn't some HA site, ya know.

(Is that the Chromebook OS? Because, wow, that looks like a poor man's OSX.)

I like that half the adjective forms of the countries have the country name next to it in parens. Because a customer might be like "'Finnish'? Where the hell is 'Finnish'?? I just want a fucking fake/false Finland passport, you twats!"

  • @drurowin said:

A false passport and a fake passport are not the same thing. A false passport is a stolen passport that has been altered. A fake one is made from scratch. Price tag is quite different; false ones are usually more expensive because of the supply chain volatility but they stand a better chance of passing e-scrutiny.

Let me know if you need a quote but please note that my guy is strictly wholesale and won't provide documents to no stinkin' terrorist.

Well, the system tray is on the bottom rather than the top, and there's no god-awful brushed-metal/gray plastic shit everywhere. But the icons on the lower-left look more dock-like (little indicator underneath to show the program is running, right?) and there's no Start menu nor Aero Glass. shrug

What is the green quote thing? It's in the system tray and Chrome?

I think it's hangouts. It shares the same icon, at any rate.

Could be intentional. If you'll notice, there are tons of mispelled words that look right at a glance. You read it as "Fake Passport" because that's what your brain is expecting. Take a closer look, and you'll notice they're selling "Fake Passover".  Either it's a technique to elude spam assassins, or they're selling counterfit Jewish holidays. It's just like the real thing, but it only has 7 days, and the Matzoh is just really big Skyflakes.

Jesus fucking shit, man! I know ChromebookOS is a fucking gimped OS, but can you at least install an image editor on it?  Like Gimp. Because you know what happens when you take a screenshot that is sized 1:1 with a site, and then post it on the samesaid site? You fuck up the layout for every post that comes after it.

Double the fuckupedness when the site runs CS.

    1,366px × 768px images. Fuck.

I doesn't fuck up the layout for me, it just chops off some of the image. Of course, I'm running "Chromefox Explorer", the #1 fucking browser.

Wow, they are reeeeally pushing that shit. Pretty soon I'm not going to be able to jerk off to Katy Perry or Emii videos on YouTube without creating a hangout first. And since, like, the only person I know on G+ is my brother-in-law that's going to make things really awkward.

But, hey, it has all your favorite Google Apps! Like.. that light bulb one. That's gotta be something cool.

Hmm, that's strange. I can't imagine anything else using red, yellow, green, and blue...

Oh, except every 4-pack of crayons ever made.

    And pokemon

    and fruit

  • It's also the union of the traditional primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and the primary colors of light (red, blue, green).

I really don't think you get to count Green. It's the Japanese version of Pokémon Blue.

(Unless you're not just counting the first-generation games, in which case you left out Gold, Silver, Black, White, and a bunch of titles that aren't actually colours.)

You clearly don't understand how trademarks work. It's not just "using the colors". It's using them in a logo similar enough to the Windows one to cause confusion in consumers, and in the same industry. Now, the Chrome logo is probably different enough to pass trademark muster (although it does make me question the branding folks at Google when they have to rip off their competitor's logo) but that # sign thing is pretty damn similar to the Windows logo.

  • @MiffTheFox said:

Do you people not understand how trademarks work? Are the colors black, white and red trademarked? No. But when you use them to draw Mickey Fucking Mouse (or "Rickey Ducking Rouse"), that's a trademark violation. (Actually, it doesn't matter what fucking colors you draw Rickey in..)

And actually, the # sign actually looks a bit like the newer Office logo, too. So there's probably a case to be made that the general pattern belongs to Microsoft. Like how you can't open a restaurant and serve "McBurritos" because clearly you're ripping off McDonald's. McD's doesn't even need to have an actual product called "McBurrito" since taking "Mc" in front of foods to make a new product name is their thing--you can't do it.

  • I most like that he's offering BOTH real and fake ones. I was in the market for a fake, but now he says he can get me a REAL Mexican passport I totally want that instead.
Is there anyone in the world to whom it doesn't occur, that the definition of a real passport is that it was issued by the authoritative office to the actual person named within it?

So the colors have nothing in common with the old Windows logo but the # shape infringes on one of MS's trademraks?

Nobody is going to see the Chrome logo and get it "confused" with Windows. I've always just thought it was a subtle fuck you aimed at Microsoft.  Yes, that would be silly.  But it's not like it hasn't been done before.

  • @MiffTheFox said:

facepalm Of course the colors are exactly the same, which when taken with the # shape would seem very reminiscent of the Windows and Office logos.

The point is, you can't just trademark colors (outside of very narrow usage), which is what you dipwads were seeming to imply. No, Microsoft doesn't own a trademark on the primary colors. Yes, they almost certainly have a trademark claim to those four colors arranged in a square shape, when relating to software.

  • @El_Heffe said:

I think it's possible they might. Or at the very least, given it's similarity to Windows and Office logos, they might think it's a M$-sanctioned product.

But I did say that the Chrome logo would probably slip by, but the hashmark thing (which is what I brought up in the first place) almost certainly would not.

It's a fucking IRC client. It's not made by Google. It's a free app, and it works on Windows too. How the fuck is someone going to confuse Microsoft's logo:

I took the liberty of searching for images similar to the windows logo.

Among the things that show up long before any Google product:

    • Firefox
    • MSN Messenger
    • Apple's rainbow logo
    • An apple with arms and legs
    • A bell
    • Internet Explorer
    • Media Player
    • A green @ sign

I would agree that the AVG logo is very similar to Windows.  Maybe too similar.  I wonder how they got away with that?  As for the other items on your list, the only thing you proved is that Google's image search sucks.

  • @El_Heffe said:

Yeah, it's just the Windows logo rotated 180 degrees, with slightly different shapes. I know it didn't used to be like that, so all I can imagine is they changed it and nobody's figured it was worth suing them yet.

Oh, and if you GIS for "avg logo", the 71st result is the Windows logo. Now, I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure under Supreme Court rules that means Microsoft wins a $30 million settlement from AVG: $101 million - ($1 * position in GIS results)
