  • Some people really are stupid, and it's easy to go all "Derek Smart" on them, but then you'd get fired.  Instead, maybe try to find the person in your webserver logs.  Maybe you can figure out exactly what they clicked on and reproduce the error.

Last week, I had a person ask to be removed from a directory of attendees to a conference. It was just names, but anyway, no problem: "click" you're removed.  The next day, "WTF!?!!11 I TOLD YOU TO REMOVE ME I HAVE A RESTRAINING ORDER ON MY HUSBAND IF YOU DONT REMOVE ME YOU WILL HEAR FROM MY LAWYER"  Well, I wasn't wearing my special "batshit insane" armor (+3 to patience) so I just handed that off to my boss, who eventually figured out that this chick was looking at google's cache.

    <o:p> </o:p>

Nice.  Good luck erasing all evidence of your existence from the web.  Let me know how that works out for you.<o:p></o:p>

  • and then there was this other guy who didn't know how to use the forum software, and so instead of replying to this thread:

He posted a brand new one and everyone laughed at him.  He was a real idiot.

    oh wait, that's me.

Up until that point I though you were being just slightly too hard on the poor stupid user...

...but then I realized that if anything you were too forgiving. ;-D

  • I just wonder why

    I got so much spacing

    between the lines in

    the post above.

  • A post on the web

    Double spaced and most lengthy

    I just wonder why

  • I do all my posts

    in the HTML mode.

    It works more often.

  • People wonder why

    Normals don't understand nerds.

    I used to. No more.

  • This forum scares me

    HTML or normal

    it rarely will work

  • A poser for you

    does one really always need

    IQ to haiku?

  • I was reading posts
    Happened across weird stuff
    Haiku only thread

  • I am not sure how
In the midst of all that crap
    A thread such as this.

  • ??

(more ?? to Haiku would help)

  • Why chat in haiku?

    Limericks are funnier,

    and can have more words.

    Compare that above to below:

In limerick, you see, I can show

    so many more words

    in one single verse.

(That couplet was shakey, I know.)

  • Ok, I really hate to do this, but this thread is seriously bugging
me.  You can't just take ye olde random sentence and break it up
into 5 syllables and 7 syllables and pat yourself on the back thinking
    you're writing haiku.

There are rules.  You're familiar with the 5-7-5 rule.
Right?  Well guess what, there are other rules too.  For one
thing, the first two stanzas have to be separate statements describing
a scene.  Just breaking up a sentence doesn't count.

    So:

    Sorry.  Not haiku.

    @Rodyland said:

nope.  Not even close to haiku.

Traditionally, a haiku is supposed to be about nature, but obviously
that's a rule that we'll have to bend if we want them to have any
relevance here.  But the rule about describing a scene.  We
can do that.  We can do it right because we're geeks
(right?)  Take a look at this one:

    @hank miller said:

It's actually kind of cool.  In the first stanza, the reader tells
us he's scared.  A scene is set.  The second stanza gives us
a clinical description of what's scary.  "HTML or normal."
Now we can imagine cold, lifeless HTML, and imagine it being
scary.  The last stanza of most haiku tells you the "spirit" of
the thing that was just described.  And really great haiku makes
some contrast between the spirit and the description so as to
contradict what you might have originally thought.

Anyway, I'm rambling and nobody will care anyway.  I just thought I'd throw it out there.

    A man speaks of rules
Some people care, some do not
    More haikus to come.

  • In prosaic examples aplenty, great joy was so attain'd

For fun for most, but for him, whom for formost rules rule

The stories were told, to both mirth yet moreso also of pain

Why not strive for amusement in spite of the cries of a mule?

    (We need hexameter!)

    PS.

What's with this utterly illogical forum software? I clicked "post" as
I would on any other system and a new thread was made!!! Which I
couldn't delete because the delete time had expired 12 seconds later!!!
O.O X-( Forum system from HELL!

    DS.

Well... for a first haiku ever it was only wrong in about 10 different ways..

Typocal that I can't do a thing to fix it now.

    Really big asshole.

Comes from nowhere, trolling away freely.

    Richard Nixon, piss off.

  • I think all future comments in the main forum should have to be written
in haiku form. We could even convert the old classics for those who
spam the site trying to get first post. Maybe like...

    Ah my eyes, my eyes!

    The goggles, they do nothing.

    Should have used VB.

    FIRST!! This is BRILLANT!

Must be paid per line of code.

    What language is this?

  • "You should try Haiku,"
I said, and my thoughtful friend
    Replied, "Gesundheit."

  • Alas, I am wrong!

    Nitpicked by processed soybeans.

    A new rule guides me.

    The poet ponders.

    Correctness restricts his words.

    I lack patience now.

    better?
