Excel responds Document not saved. when pressing Esc on save.

  • Excel responds “Document not saved.” when pressing Esc on save.

Excel has an facility to clear the undo buffer when an user tries to save a file, uses auto-recover, auto-filter or spell-checking.

  • Ctrl-Z

Uh ok? So when you cancel a save, Excel tells you it didn't save the document? Shocking.

Excel also has a handy auto-number feature! Just type the first few values of your sequence into adjacent cells, select those cells, and fill down or right. Your sequence will continue as if by magic!

And... we're listing the features of Excel... why?

  • Just press Esc to cancel the save and Excel will respond “Document not saved.”

So.. it works as intended/directed, then!

  • I imagine the point he's trying to raise it that having cancelled the first save, subsequent attempts raise that error. It's a known issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/214073 No idea what the second half of his post was.

  • Clear undo buffer is a hidden feature in Excel and PowerPoint: older versions only. It is enabled for older versions of Excel and PowerPoint. There is no way to start threatening to save all files and clearing the undo stack by adding an registry key.

Microsoft SAPI Version 4.0 (4.0.4.2903) fails with the following vowels; instead an silence will be heard instead. Here is an list: d (any vowel), ds, dt, ns, rp, sg, sk, tb, td, th, tk, tm.

    Okay, that makes more sense.

Not Excel's behaviour, but the explanation of this weird behaviour.@nosliwmas said:

Worse than that: I'd no idea what the first part of his post was - until you explained it.

  • Another Excel feature is how it uses semicolons for comma-separated-values files if your locale happens to be Swedish.

  •  It clears the clipboard on saving, at least th 2013 version.

It does that for all locales that use comma as the decimal separator.

I thought CSV meant character separated values, not comma-separated - so any character could be used as a field separator.

Not according to Excel - it's file dialogs say "Comma-separated values" even in locales where a semicolon is used.

  • This forum allows usage of foul language and offensive words. Excel has an irritating facility that clears the undo buffer in file save, spell check and everything in between: auto-recover etc.

    Incorrect.

This forum actively seeks out (though only as a secondary mission) to stimulate such language, attempting to reach new creative heights in abrasiveness. You motherfucker.

  • Hijo de puta. If you are permitted to use foul language in this forum?

It would be very quiet around here if we weren't. I mean, there's that one guy...

  • Comments that could be in other languages or offensive can get through it on the forum.

Excel 2010 is not clearing the undo buffer after save.
