  • don't have sliver lights, anything interesting in the video?

  •  I don't have SilverLight either, but I think it's referring to the text that appears when you hover your cursor over that big box at the top.

Don't you just love it when the OP is in a hurry and misses out the key details, like why the thing they've brought to our attention is a WTF in their eyes?

  • I didn't think anybody would be afraid to install such a common plugin. Anyway... The front image says it all:

Or can't even be bothered to put a real link? No. That's not love.

Or, can't be arsed to worry about another useless plugin fucking up the system with its unnecessarily redundant Bing-itdue.

Ah shit, man, I gots no fucking clue about this dumbass Micro cloud shit. iMac, yo. iMac.

    {In a bizarre combination of self-destruction and resignation to their fate, the Azure team posts the video, anyways}

I haven't installed it because it serves no purpose that I can see. Maybe if there was no Flash, this might be useful, or if you could get this on devices where Flash was unavailable, but this is available for less platforms.

Oh, and it's a sodding video. We can play these now without 3rd party plugins these days, do we really need to install Silverlight just to watch a video? I think this is the realWTF.

Can't disagree on that. But maybe that's the real agenda; getting people to install Silverlight at the promise of an unbelievably silly video. At least I did!

    Pick a reason:

    • Security lockdown on domain PC
    • No value-add over flash/native HTML technology
    • Mac
    • Can't be arsed
    • Nothing I care about uses it

All but the first, in particular the second and the last.

As for the third, there's Moonlight, which goes to show there are people with a lot of free time.

I've not actually tried using Moonlight, but as I understand it, it tends to be a version behind. This doesn't usually matter for most Silverlight stuff out there (I've yet to see Silverlight in the wild that wasn't on the Microsoft site) but anything that requires the latest version of Silverlight is gonna throw a tantrum.

    FTFY.

  • I was hoping Microsoft fired hipsters from marketing and hired people who actually know what they're doing.

Looks like it didn't happen. "Heroes Happen Here" lives on.

    You silly. Netflix no exist.

  •  Ok then, this should suffice for everyone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQyatIpkHvM <-- see? It's a URL that's also a link to a YouTube video that only requires HTML5 to load.

I missed it because I didn't have any interest in Netflix, so I'd not seen what technologies they use. On paper Netflix sounds great, in practice they're too limited because of the studios not wanting to relinquish their absolute control over film distribution, so limiting the films Netflix can deliver.

There's no netflix for my country. The dumbasses just completly deny access to me.

  • OK, T-Bone, time for some serious crunching. (fast forward to about 2:15)

     You're welcome.

  • Ok 1: if you you want people to see 2:15 in the video, make the fucking link go to 2:15. Duh.

2: why the fuck would anybody upload a video to YouTube that only has a LEFT audio channel? What happened to the right channel? Or if it' not in stereo, why isn't it 50-50 left-right? WTF random person who uploaded this.

HTML5 with MP4 support. Maybe WebM support too if YouTube finally started using their own standard, but I doubt it.

Sadly a lot of people think it "sounds good" on speakers and then neglect to worry about stuff like users with headphones.

My guess is that the right channel had audio in another language. Did you never play Hong Kong VCDs in the 90's?

YouTube switched me to their HTML5 beta a long time ago (not sure why or when, I just realized that suddenly the videos started playing as soon as the page loaded instead of waiting for me to activate Flash), and since I'm using Opera I'd say that yes, they do support WebM.

Not that anyone here cares, but Moonlight is 3 versions behind. Last I knew it was considered an abandoned project.
