Open position "printer installer specialist". Requirements: Bachelor's degree.

  • WTF Brazilian IT Market. WTF?! (And I thought I've seen bad enough stuff.

It gets me depressed for chosing to be in IT and being born in my country.

  •  OK, Community Serverdisplays only the 1st phrase of the title and it looks like SPAM.

I guess CS is TRWTF (overused phrase alert)

  • This would be so cool if I could read it.

It's a job website where enterprises list their open positions and users can apply. This particular position lists something that can be translated as "bachelor's degree" (as it means basically finishing a complete university course) as a requirement to be a "printer installer". Less than a computer repair guy. Printer installer guy. University degree.

  • With the fact that modern printers have built in webservers, ftp servers and have the ability to install and execute arbitrary code you really should know what you are doing.

You don't want your printer to secretly email everything you print to some Russian hacker do you?

I was going to make fun of the machine translation, but... it's actually pretty good. DAMN YOU ADVANCEMENTS IN TECHNOLOGY!

Wow. "Dados da vaga" sounds kinda dirty, though. And somehow I think "Hierarchical level: Expert" didn't cross over the language barrier intact.

My browser translates the title to Data From vague Installer Printers SP, which I believe translates to HOW THE HELL DO I GET DATA FROM THIS PRINTER I INSTALLED.

I actually had that job every morning for the last 3 months of my time in the army. In that time I changed a single ink cartridge. The rest of the time was spent listening to music, reading ebooks, dodging brass and smirking at NCO recruits sweeping leaves off the street. Not bad for someone without a single army connection.

Surprisingly, the automated translation worked flawlessly. The same can't be said about the mind of the person who wrote the original text.

  • You should see my college's newsletter then, Rudá. Last week we had a mail about a position in a company where your salary would be partially paid with milk, by the gallons.

Over the last 18 months I've been writing at a small/medium sized technology blog. I get about $ 20* per post, which isn't such a big deal but is quite above the average (The 2nd biggest tech blog in the country pays about $20* - $40* per post). I've seen people happy with the opportunity of getting $ 5* for a 500-word post (oh, and my posts don't have a strictly enforced minimum wordcount).

But the true gem are the offers that goes like "Write posts for our blog, we'll pay you in adsense cents ONLY FROM THE POSTS YOU WRITE". You write the posts, they put your adsense code just on those articles, and that's your payment. (With the added bonus of if their blog is punished, probably your adsense account is punished too!) I've seen various announcements like that being advertised as a great advantage.

PS: (*) values in BRL. I can't be bothered to make a decent conversion because of this.

PPS: One does not simply refer someone else by their real name on TDWTF, Mr. Ren.... OH WAIT.
