Adblock + Facebook

  • I see this all the time on sidebars in facebook. My guess is that adblock does not play well with facebook. I'll never know what people like so much, what they played and who shared what (it hurts).

  • What's this "facebook" you speak of?

  • Do you have an adblock rule that blocks links? You might want to disable that one.

It's the underlying platform for FarmVille. It can also be used to lose money in the stock market.

Interesting. Could I use foresaid tool to give away some or a lot of my private data in exchange for mindless, time-consuming blather? That would be a real killer feature.

  •  You have adblock, yet I see ads in those pics?

Yes, which is why this is a mysterious behavior. I wish I could test with IE to compare, unfortunately I forgot my facebook password a long time ago and lately I've relied on the fact that the content of login forms is memorized by Chrome.

TRRWTF is that you jump to bad conclusions quickly; you must be a terrible troubleshooter (and/or a woman). Nothing in my post says that I don't know how to reset passwords.

And you can't go into Chrome's settings and display the password that is saved for Facebook because ________________ ?

Well it would take a few clicks already, then I would have to re-type my credentials in IE (more tedious than not doing it). Unless you know an easy way to push these to IE under the hood?

See, again you jump to wrong conclusions, and you misquote me in the process. It's interesting however to see how you infer the word "idiot" from a post about you. My new theory is not that you are a woman but that you are instead a self-hating Jew from NYC (a la Woody Allen).

I believe the computery people call it "copy" and "paste".

    Paste works in password fields?

    Yes. Amazing, isn't it?

Cool, if I pay you your usual "computer people" rate which is probably below $30/hour, can you come to my home and copy-paste stuff for me? You don't even have to be naked while you do it (that's a perk for having a college education, unlike the maid).

Ok for the good of mankind I did as you suggested then compared the page with IE. I have to say, Facebook with ads look cheap. And Facebook is restless: I clicked on "Like" on the ad at the top (Mitt Romney ad) then almost immediately it got replaced by another ad for Paul Ryan. I can't even enjoy the stuff I "like", it's worse than the firehose on Slashdot!

  • @Speakerphone Dude said:

Not always,1 but it generally does. Copy tends to be disabled for password fields, though. I wonder why …

1 It doesn't work in the login window or screen on OS X Lion, for example.

Chuck Snadboy's Revelation onto a Windows PC and when you use that and more often than not you can see the passwords.
