I already miss the old name

  • and it's only been 5 minutes.  Is that wrong?

No, it's not wrong. I don't mind removing "Daily" from the name, but WTF should *be* WTF.

I hope there's still WTF-oriented gear in the store. I better get it before it gets sterilized.

  • Gah! Now I can't find the link to the store. Time to go search through cafepress. :(

Oh how ironic your name is!

Sure, it wasn't "daily" any more, and not everything made you say "WTF?!?" but the new name applies even less - most of the submissions are *better* than failure, because they succeed, but in a very WTF-ish way. Since "the old name doesn't apply any more" was the reasoning behind it, it seems strange than an even less applicable name replaces it.

But hey, as long as the content stays the same...

  • Comfort yourself with the knowledge that a name is but a name, and it will soon lose whatever meaning it had.

I chose my domain name with that sad fact in mind.

  • I'm not a particular fan of the new name and/or the home page, but I don't come here for that - I come here for the forums as they are much more interesting anyway.

What I find really interesting is that we are in an extremely fast paced industry where you need to grow and adapt just to survive.  You'd figure that we'd be more conducive to change, but perusing the announcement comments it doesn't appear so.

Along with dhromed's comment, remember your Shakespeare.  "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

  • "What's in a name?" only goes so far. I don't think that many people would consider sending their kids to "The Pedophile's Nursery of Kiddy Killing". ;-)

That said, I'll miss the old name, but reading the replies to the front page post - wow some people take it all waaay too seriously. Same people, same content, just a different name. Deal with it.

  • if you miss the old name just continue typing "www.thedailywtf.com"

"Success" in a WTF-ish way can be much more expensive in the long run than a simple failure, which at least gives you a chance for a new start to do it right.

  • Alex,

    It's not "what's in a name" in business, it's "it's all in a name".

Do you plan on responding to 6 pages of comments from your loyal readers?

  • Either my browser is misbehaving or I'm very confused.  I can't find the "main page" or the daily postings.  I click on the Home button, the top piece of the breadcrumbs, or even just typing the base url and everything gets me just to the forums.  What am I missing?

The new site is http://worsethanfailure.com/ Try going there directly.. then navigating back to the forums.

The forums are on a separate domain name than the main blog: the forums are at http://forums.worsethanfailure.com, and the main blog is at http://worsethanfailure.com. The home link in the forums goes to the main forum page. If you want to go to the main blog page, you can type http://worsethanfailure.com, or you can click on the big goofy face icon in the upper-left corner.

  • <FONT face=tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif>The first thing I noticed when I went back to this site is the banner logo. At first it was just, "Wow, the subtitle had a new look...". After several seconds it was, "Whoa! New name too???".

It doesn't really matter much to me though, but I kinda miss the old name as well. Nothing more catching than the url, TheDailyWTF.com. Just as I miss the old forum software we used to bash and curse every post.

Ironically, I laugh harder on the articles / comments during those times. (Or maybe it's just because that was the first time I happen to read articles of this sort).

It was just a name anyway. It's the content that counts.

Nay, I miss it too. To mourn the passing of that domain of old, I created a new account the go with the new site.

It's too bad the forum software didn't get updated...

  • I too don't rate the new name. But in the end it makes little difference – we'll still post and discuss WTFs.

  • I'm adding to this thread to register my protest against the new name, however futile that may be.

I mean what's this for? Who the freak thought "Worse Than Failure" wouldn't totally fail?  It wasn't that funny when the first time I saw this waste treatment facility of a name I well and truly freaked and shouted "WTF!?! What's This For?"

  • Same, even though i never posted much the old name really applied way more than the current name.

Steeldragon cries thinking bout all the fun when WTF was TDWTF
