The real WTF is...

  • Alex never features any of my comments.

Either make all comments equal or start featuring some of mine..

  • I recently had two comments featured. One was even a fr1st. I'm proud :-)

    Here's my recipe:

    1. Send me $BIGBUCKS
    2. Profit!!!

You DO know you've got to write your own comments in the features, right? Alex doesn't write them for you...

It would be even better if they would unfeature comments.

The downside if your comments are featured is that a lot more people will not find them funny...

  • The comments on the front page articles? Or do you mean promoting sidebar WTFs to proper WTFs?

If you're griping about the first: front page comments are trash.

If you're griping about the second: I kind of agree.

How do you send $BIGBUCKS to yourself?

Easy. Wire a negative amount to someone else.

I just went to take a look at them for the first time in like 3 years. People there are still announcing their captchas as if anyone gives a shit, making inane applications of the WTF in question to their comment (i.e. "This comment didn't make it past QA" in a QA-related WTF), and the first five comments are still "FIRST" or "FRIST".

The only improvement I see since the last time I ventured there was the lack of Bert Glanstrom comments about TDWTF being a grown up place and being banned from mommy's modem.

  • Don't forget about the dozen or two posts from fake Nagesh entities who think common English-as-a-second-language spelling mistakes make for good and humorous commentary. And the scores of posts explaining the joke as though they've been hit with the insight that there is a WTF described in the story. Then there are always a handful of sometimes-funny posts that build upon the WTF, but those are inevitably followed up by scores of morons who don't pick up on the joke and get all bent out of shape at the unrealistic nature of the given scenario. And, invariably, the file of useless comments about how the TDWTF hasn't been funny since whenever.

Although we get in the forums, too, but in more manageable quantities.

A community moderation system would be cool, but I shudder to think of a possible CS implementation...

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

I came to the conclusion that that bollocks was part of being the 'in-crowd' that post there some time back. And CBA reading any more after that. At least /. has got some stuff in there to remove it for those that can't be bothered.

I still get the articles via RSS, but without the @RHuckster said:

crap. Nice to know I'm not missing anything.

I'd almost like to say 'seriously - don't they know there's a forum here?' but I'm guessing that even I'd end up blocking them after 3 posts for being boring. At least my denizens (Swampy doesn't count) of Coventry doesn't annoy me that much. Yet.

To be fair, the "Please show some sensitivity. I had a son who was ..." and the "Alex is dead!" guys seem to have gone away too. And we even have a grammatically-correct Nagesh now.

At one time, I even bothered to write me a little GreaseMonkey script just to filter out 'Nagesh' posts... but eventually I just stopped caring abouth front page comments at all.
