Linux, yes. MacOS 10, yes, but not Macs in general. I don't believe it runs on Macs, but it does run on Linux and some Unixes.

Well AAC costs $300k/year (source) but with all the money Google's pissing on Mozilla I don't see a reason why they couldn't pay that.

Then again, AAC audio is the least of Firefox's worries. ("Hey, let's not only force the community to maintain half the browser's features, but make it so doing so is next to impossible unless you focus full-time on it!")
