Initech Lives!

  • Noticed there is a company actually calling themselves Initech - www.initech.co.uk

I checked their website, but could not find any jokey references to the film. Supposedly formed 2001 so surely it's intentional?

Or should we just burn down their offices... :)

  •  the same ?

Anyway, we have at last a chance to see what Paula Bean looks like... (I decide to imagine she's the blonde girl on the left)

who put a picture that looks like they have been locked in that room for days with nothing but whiteboard markers to kill each ... i think i worked at a company like that, every planning meeting was a waste of time as they just plan more shit plans.

Followed by several lines of Yahoo webhosting tracking scripts.

I guess they discovered the free webhosting plan where they put their World Class Website was inserting tracking scripts, and meant to take them out. But then they "...expand[ed] our India office to a state of the art development center in Fall 2009...".

And they were never heard from again.

  • Hadn't thought to look at the source html of the UK company's website .. there is a reference to Initech in the News section "Details of the new TPS cover sheet" which goes to the Office Space entry on Wikipedia.

So they chose the name intentionally. Not sure if that's worse!

TRWTF is in the whois data.

  • Christ almighty, they can't even produce well-formed HTML (no closing body or html tags)! And they want MONEY for their "services"?

Link under "news & updates" says "Details of the new TPS cover sheet" and links to the Office Space page on Wikipedia.

It is a weird site though. It seems too crap to actually be a joke.

Why the hell is there a clock on there? I'm really struggling to think of any device I can access a website from that can't display the system time to me by itself.

And the search box that's not only a strange addition (why would you want to help someone get away from your website when there's already so little keeping them there), but doesn't actually work if you try to search for something.

To be honest, the closing tags *are* in the original HTML, but the JS mangle it so hard at load that it ends slaughtered. I guess I don't want to know how exactly.

  •  I personally appreciated the banner on the uk one which advertised: "don't put all your eggs in one basket?  with an initech solution..... you can!"

Because of course you can trust initech with all of your eggs.  While they're at it, they can count the chickens before they hatch and store all of their eggs in that same basket as well (should be easy with a little extra xml, some wooden tables,...)

Only if you want NOW all over your balls.

Which reminds me: I'd been planning on starting my own chain of discount, even-less-ethical-than-usual franchise abortion clinics, but I couldn't make the numbers work. Then it hit me: in vitro clinic in the front, abortion clinic in the back. Rich ladies come in to get impregnated and we "accidentally" Octo-mom 'em. Then when they're in for their check up we "discover" the error. Of course some of the cheapskates will carry all eight to term, but we can probably upsell enough on our $500-a-head "Super Un-Saver*" package.

Anyway, just made me think of it because the slogan I came up with: "All Of Your Eggs In One Wastebasket".

(*The name definitely needs work. I wanted to emphasize the cash savings over a conventional, Mom 'n Pop abortion clinic, but felt the word "saver" had unwanted connotations in this industry.)

It's worse. Check out the "Careers, Current Opportunites" page for some excellent misspellings (e.g. "Technical Recuriter:" I shit you not!); and all their jobs are for … oh. The (UK?) Home Office. If they really are "recuritering*" for the UK's Home Office, THAT explains a LOT!

(* making something happen again, and again, and again, and again, and … )
