Priceline email confirmation

  • Just got this email from Priceline:

  • sekret PM club

Took me about 30 seconds of wondering if the fact that they didn't capitalize their name in the "Thank you" line was the WTF...then I saw the date.

So are you flying by TARDIS then?

  • Oh, I see. The RWTF is that the trip number is blank in both places. Null checking, m i rite?

  • So they sent this out late?

They let you book a flight in the past?

You were a lazy bastard and only just now got around to posting a 3 week old email?

I can make all kinds of assumptions here, what do you think was the WTF?

  • Was it a MM/DD DD/MM error?

  • @Anketam said:

Localization is only valid for display purposes, system store dates internally in only one way.  The email was generated internally before being sent and the conversion to long date format was done using the saved date, which was April 5th, not May 4th.

If it was a MM/DD - DD/MM error on the part of Mr. Lettuce then the WTF is that priceline let him book a date in the past according to thier system.

Still with what we are presented with, we have no idea what he says the WTF is.

In other news, I have seen this in code:

    return Null;

I mean seriously why?!?!?! (makes as much sense without context)

We do have an idea, but the second WTF is that he thinks tags are a better way of communicating than the body of the post.

So the email was sent late?  Or he just got back and he received it late?  Or is he being sarcastic in his tag and they backdated the departure date?

Still so many assumptions.  With all that said, I think I know the real WTF.

I love that you are assuming they designed their system reasonably and are using DateTime objects and that they are using them properly.  For all we know their auto email generating system might be a totally different system than their reservation system and they dont play nicely with each other.  But you are right we need a lot more context to properly disect this.

This is the second time I've received this email. The first time was immediately after I booked the flight.

I sense you guys are having a slow day at work or something and are looking to drum something up by making this WTF about me rather than the post content. I'll admit the tag is misleading, but the email's timestamp is included in the screenshot.

    Yeah slow day.

But the time stamop simply says the email was received 2 hours before the screen shot was taken, but we don't know when that was.

So yes, the minor WTF was you for thinking we knew the context of this.  The original WTF is now clearer, they sent this again 3 weeks after the fact even though you received it once before way back when.  Does make one wonder, is someone testing in the production system?  Or did production data get copied to test with no safeguards?

  • Yea, point taken. Blarg.

I haven't gotten an email from them concerning another flight I have booked in the future, so maybe they had to restore their prod database, which has triggers to send emails to their customers, and these triggers are poorly written.

  • @lettucemode said:

    1. No it isn't. Maybe it is if I could scroll right, or if you had bothered to scale the image, or if you had bothered to put it in a scrollable DIV. But none of those things are true, and thus the timestamp is NOT included in the screenshot as I experience it. (Did you QA this post?)

    2) If I do view the image in a separate window, I see a timestamp that says "2 hours ago". So what? That just deepens the mystery. Now I need the date on the email, the timestamp of the email, AND the timestamp of the image file to make any rational conclusions about this. So no, you still haven't solved anything by pointing out the timestamp.

PROTIP: when posting on a forum, assume readers can't read your mind.

  • So when anyone else posts something, it's "ugh that sucks, those people are idiots."  When lettucemode posts something, it's "you're probably making it up."  Interesting...

I don't think you've been paying attention. When blakeyrat posts somehing, it's "ugh that sucks, those people are idiots". When anyone else posts something, it's "I'm not fucking psychic you aggresively-stupid person."

I don't think anyone accused him of making it up, I think people are just baffled at what the WTF actually is.

You [Sutherlands] should look at lettucemode's quote of Blakeyrat:

So lettucemode is not getting as much special treatment as it seems, it is just Blakeyrat is a ninja with the edit, but not as ninja as lettucemode is when replying.

And by "edit" you mean "protip"?

I don't understand what your post even has to do with anything in this thread.

Actually, he gave me another protip in the tag of that post, so I just incorporated it into the previous protip, thus creating a super-mega protip.

Not the protip part the 'I hate you' part.  What does Blakeyrat hate?  Idiots (among many other things).  You accused Blakeyrat of not calling lettucemode an idiot, which I was pointing out that before Blakeyrat edited his post he implied it (assuming this is not a case of lettucemode FTFYing without mentiong it, which if it is then you can ignore this and my previous post).

  • Now I really hate you.

    No, I didn't.

Nobody said he's making it up.

Wrong timezone. Also, unconventional working hours.

Portland, Oregon is not on the coast.

I was thinking of the one in Maine, which actually is on the coast (and is quite a nice place to visit).

Yeah, I know, I was just trying to make it sound better than it actually is..
