TDWTF WTF3,105,312

  • If I had 100 hands with eleventy fingers on each, I still couldn't count how many people post garbage like "The biggest WTF is the forum software!" over and over.  While the irony may seem hysterical - it doesn't out-weight the annoyance of reading your pointless, un-constructive message.

I'd take those 100 hands with eleventy fingers and use them to slap each and every person that does this crap.

Yes, this post is also pointless and un-constructive.  Oh the irony!  Someone post about it!

  • The real WTF is that you misspelled eleventie.

  • The real WTF is users posting the captcha they got. And thinking it proves anything except their ability to read.

That, and the way certain discussion end up getting completely hijacked by people who completely miss the important issues and instead must weigh in ad nauseam about how stupid people are for (for example) expecting you to show up at a job interview with clothes on.

I agree - what if you are applying for a job as a techology director at a nudist colony?

Well then, if you show up at the interview WITH clothes you don't get the job!

Hey, I would straight up fire anyone who worked for me who wore a collared shirt or long pants (or shoes that weren't falling apart) to work because they are obviously uncreative squares, man, and my supercool trendy Web 2.0 ISV has no place for them.

And what's wrong with wearing a powder blue leisure suit to a job interview as an actuary anyway? </sarcasm>

  • captcha: cluless.  Me?  <smile>

  • Please, people - whatever happened to "General Discussion?!" It's like there are eleventy-plus topics in "Side Bar" to each "General Discussion" thread. This clearly belongs there.

Why do I bring this up? I get irritated checking a mostly empty forum, then finding "General Discussion" material in the other forums. I know, I know.. lots of other bad stuff in the world to worry about, but still...

    Captcha: Dictionary.  Use one.

Always thought that was a bit odd. The instructions are pretty clear that the image should be typed in the textbox BELOW the image.

But, I like it because it gives all you registered users an opportunity to see the clever CAPTCHA texts I've put in there.

    Captcha: Dictionary.  Use one.

    Captcha: Joke.  Get one.

BTW:  as far as people posting the captchas...  I like it because I like to see what they are but I never use them.

  • Reminds me of Alexander Pope's example of the art of sinking in poetry:

     Behold a scene of misery and woe;

Here Argus soon might weep himself quite blind,

Even though he had Briareus' hundred hands

    To wipe his hundred eyes.

  • "the real WTF" is that so many of you feel the need to moan about some other WTF than the one posted about! Stay on topic!

  • I just accept the fact that in general IT people are basically a bunch of 13 year old girls bickering over which spice girl is the hottest (as a metaphor) so i don''t think there's much WTF to the way people behave on this forum.

And i think the writing of ones capcha can be funny when it's relevant to what is posted.

However as with the slashdot jokes, the true meaning gets lost in the overuse of the joke, yet people find humour in it, so whatever.

The real WTF is people like you who butt in telling everyone else how to conduct themselves on a web forum like some kind of self appointed web forum police. Butt out now!

The really real WTF is that the forum has changed from TDWTF to Worse Than Failure (a name that must be one of those geeky self referencial things) in the time since I last posted, and I still have a login. So the REALLY real WTF is the forum software.

  • I would agree, except the Real WTF is the forum software. It's the weirdest forum I've seen anywhere, ever.

    Captcha: WTF

It's not that it's weird (although it is). It's largely that trying to get it to actually do what you want is so terribly painful. Trying to format a post the way you want it is like trying to write software in brainfuck - yeah, you can do it, but you spend ages wrestling with the thing and trying to persuade it not to move all the line endings and bugger up the spacing by inserting random <br> and <p> tags all over the place. Whenever I do anything complicated (like include some source code) I end up having to use the raw html thingy. And as if that wasn't bad enough - it's the 21st century, I should not still be having to deal with software that does not have a correct implementation of the backspace and delete keys. This is not bloody SVR5.

After dealing with all that unnecessary IDIOCY, you can damn well believe that I'm going to spread it around a bit. I'm glad that there are people who find it so annoying to read about how bad the forum software is - it means that every time I mention it, I'm not the only irritated person.

And incidentally, this forum software is a pile of rancid yak vomit. Alex has a point - failure would have been better than this monstrosity getting released on the world.

  • exactly!  ........ a man walks into a bar, "ouch!"

never get too tired of that one to not smile.  :)

What's wrong? Which browser? Have you tried "stty erase ^H"?

I see you get the point ;)

    What's wrong?

The idiotic javascript editor reimplements them, and there's a bug in it somewhere that causes them to either delete the wrong characters or just do nothing at all. I've never been able to duplicate it reliably, it seems to be related to a really fricking strange interpretation of what is and is not a valid cursor position, in the context of those unholy <p>/<br> messes it likes to use for formatting.

(Yes, I've tried the non-javascript version. It's worse)
