UniServity.. the new GeoCities for schools
-
A services provider for local authorities and schools around the North West of England... they are currently providing hosting for a hell of a lot of school websites. The thing I can't understand is - why anyone would want their website to look like this:
http://clc2.uniservity.com/Grouphomepage.asp?GroupId=218913
or this:
http://clc2.uniservity.com/Grouphomepage.asp?GroupId=202037
or this:
http://clc2.uniservity.com/Grouphomepage.asp?GroupId=554572
In fact.. if you go to the uniservity gateway page and pick and school website on the list (of over 1 squillion and counting) they all use the same garish primary colours and horrific layout (bonus if you can find marquees, animated gifs, images with distorted aspect ratios due to browser resizing, or processor raping flash movies - if you can find more than 1 identical flash movie on a page you win a bonus-bonus prize)
I'll start you off on A
http://clc2.uniservity.com/?selected=A
Why is this allowed? Who designed the template? Why are only primary colours allowed? WHY DO THE SCHOOLS SAY "yes this is acceptable"?
Oh the irony of the company tagline 'be unique'
-
Thanks goodness they haven't reached Devon yet!
On a side note, I think you win `the internets` as your third site link shows a marquee!
-
I think after "the goggles do nothing" I had lost use of my eyesight and didn't even notice that marquee, yay me!
-
Holy christ, I think I'm blind... It's like, hyper-yellow.

Maybe because its for primary schools? I dunno, I'm just glad my kids' school doesn't use it!!!!
Edit: Just discovered they use this http://www.schools-online.co.uk/, and it's just another template-fest (but not as bad as Uniservity!)
-
My favorite part is the tagline on the UniServity site: "be unique"
So far Appleton Thorn is the best one of the bunch to me, only because their image for the solar system still includes Pluto.
-
The second one doesn't actually look all that bad. The first and third are hideous, though!

You got something against freedom man? You a closet commie? Does your blood run red, comrade?

I love how about 1-in-5 links ends up at a random 500-level error page.
<font face="Arial" size="2">error '8002802b'</font>
<font face="Arial" size="2">D:\VIRTUALSERVERS\CLC2.SCHOOL-PORTAL.CO.UK\1.11\HTTPERRORS\../cfg/SessionConfiguration.asp</font><font face="Arial" size="2">, line 2</font>
Which seems to imply:
1) They've written this mess in vbscript
2) It might-- just might-- be based on Microsoft Commerce Server, which I'm sure is a massively popular product that is widely used and highly supported.
-
Seriously, though, I think we should stop*. I'm getting non-stop page errors. I don't think their servers are meant to handle the load of the massive number of FIVE users.
-
-
Oh, how nice of Armitage to give me a username to log in with... now all I need to guess is the password!

I think it's only the prefix to a username. I'm guessing all users are in the same table so they are prefixed by a string that identifies their school.

Yes, but the thing is, about Captain Oates; the thing you have to remember about Captain Oates; Captain Oates... Captain Oates was a prat! If that'd been me, I'd've stayed in the tent, whacked Scott over the head with a frozen husky, and then eaten him.

There was a recent expedition back to Antarctica that retraced some of Shackleton's route and dug up his old base camp hut, and they found a buried and apparently perfectly-preserved cache of his whiskey in the ice.I'm just going to another browser tab.. I may be some time.

Some of the bottles have been sold at auction just in the last few months, and I expect people to have drunk some of it by now.
I therefore look forward with great anticipation to the next expedition digging up the lost final pages of his diary....

We finished the last of the whisky today. It's too cold to go outside to pee.

But that Wonderputt.... PLEASE DON'T LINK TO ANOTHER GAME LIKE THAT ... .. not just yet, anyway. Few more holes to gooooooo

I'm not going to defend the colour schemes but it's possible that they are, you know, for kids.
Can't say I'm a fan of the Comic Sans and the word "UniServity" is an abomination.
The putting game is lovely.
