• A buddy of mine got a conference room named "0 row(s) returned". I thought that was pretty good.

  • If you're going that route, might I suggest some Klingon numeric characters.

  •  I quite like, "Al Qaeda Terrorist Cell", as a name.

  • I vote for naming the rooms after popular exceptions (NullException, StackOverflowException, etc.), because you're only really going to have meetings when something is going terribly wrong.

  • You NEED to make sure one room is called 404.

And send everybody there when they ask for directions.

Still, this name takes the cake. You should keep it.

  • That's pretty funny.  On first glance I thought it was an actual WTF.

When we had leased space in a building, the conference rooms were all lettered: Conference Room A through Conference Room G.  Once got tagged in the hall and asked to attend a meeting that was already starting; told them I'd be right there but first I had to go to Conference Room P.

When we moved into a building that the company owned, the rooms were named after minerals:  The Slate Room, The Turquoise Room, etc.  After our first meeting in The Amethyst Room, I managed to get everybody calling it The Atheist Room instead.

Why hardcode names? Hell, why hard code the rooms at all!

I think you should knock out all the walls between the conference rooms, and install a series of sliding and moving seperators instead. Then people can configure the size and shape of the conference room, and can call the conference room whatever best suites them and their unique need.

    Conference room 2.0, man!

  • Perhaps embed the ascii of some appropriate text (such as the old name, or something rude) into the GUID.  They'll never know.

  • Name them after sci-fi planets! SR-388, Gallifrey, QonoS, Krypton, etc. Though I suppose QonoS would lead to a lot of confusion... "Let's meet in the coneys room!" "The what?" "The coneys room?" "Oh, you mean the chrono room?"

I was in an office building a month ago (the kind where they rent small offices to start-ups) and was a "web design" company with their office in suite 403.  I giggled a little to myself when I saw that.

Unless you're doing agile, of course.  In which case I would name the room: "Scrum Bucket".  Guess what I'd name the hot receptionist?

Our suite is 410. I guess I should update my resume. :|

What, "Officer, she TOLD me she wanted me!!!"?  Or maybe "Her mouth said 'no', but her eyes said 'no', too. No matter, that's what we have roofies for".

Seems kind of drawn out to me...

Well, at least you got to work next door to your wife in Suite 411.

I went to look at the other response codes to come up with an equally "appropriate" response, but after reading that list, I'd be here all day.

    Goddamn filthy-minded geeks, they are.

  • You should just buy a bunch of these, and tack them on the doors.

    300 (Multiple Choices) - YAY!
305 (Use Proxy) - If you're into that sort of thing...
307 (Temporary Redirect) - Her monthly "friend" is visiting... Again, YAY!
402 (Payment required) - Just make sure she's not a cop
406 (Not Acceptable) - It was worth a try...
413 (Request Entity Too Large) - Fine, I'll just put it back in it's holster, and LEAVE!
417 (Expectation Failed) - Never happened to me... Honest!

  • I used to work for a company that made a habit out of naming conference rooms after popular cities and other place names. Quite a common thing to do, I guess. I'm a big fan of Iceland and I always thought it funny to assign Icelandic place names to all the rooms. Like, Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Svínafellsfjall, Eyjafjallajökull, Hraunsfjarðarvatn, Fáskrúðsfjörður, Vatnajökulsþjóðgarður and the like. Would be quite funny to listen to people trying to even pronounce those names. (No, you won't get it right without serious study of the pronunciation rules.:-)

  • Mental note for the evil annoying lair: give several conference rooms the name "the other room."

but in that case you definitely have to make sure there's no copier nearby it

Edit: and have the copier right next to some unrelated conference room.

  •  As it doesn't seem to have been suggested yet, how about room 101 for one of them? Probably more culturally relevent for the UK though...

Put the copier on a wheeled platform.

Put the copier on a wheeled platform.

...then change its position every week and swap the conference room names so the one named "Next to copier" is always furthest away from it?

Put a copier next to each room.

Or put a copier next to one room, and a large printer that isn't a copier next to each of the others.

And put them all on wheeled platforms and switch them around every day.

Schedule several conferences concurrently. While the one in "next to the copier" is on its lunch break, move the copier one door down.

  •  After a month, add a second copier.

then gather in the conference room not next to copier and watch profit and productivity figures double almost instantly

The profit figures looked good until the copier service sent their bill.
