Atomic Robo

  • Decided I won't necro the original thread derail over in Sidebar (or was it General?) and took the opportunity of creating my very own thread. Yes, a new post! And in here, because.. well...

Image that's too big to embed, but follow it to read a page.

.. because it's fun stuff. It's funny, and it's a bit good - the irreverent humour reminds me of Warren Ellis stuff. Only half-way through the first book, but the bit with Stephen Hawkins caused my beer to redirect down my dual-channel air-intakes. Bastids.

A "thank you" to those who recommended it, since it's up my street. A "fuck you" to those who recommended it, since I've succumbed to yet another time vampire. Bastids.

Any other time-leeching inkwork stains on dead trees I should avoid, too?

    Discuss.

    Unsounded

Serenity Rose 1, 2 and 3 (wins trophy for most effective use of bright colours)

Cucumber Quest (wins trophy for most effective use of only bright colours)

Kukuburi (trophy for being personal sideproject of a workaholic that hasn't seen significant updates in several years.)

Also xkcd and dilbert. I have a morbid curiosity about what kind of [web]comics do Spectate, Snoofle and Blakey read.

  • Here are the ones on my RSS. Not necessarily a complete list, just the RSS list (for example, I love Pokey the Penguin, but there's no RSS feed.) If you're interested, GOOGLE THEM, I'm not going to linkify every single one. Or probably any of them. I'm also not going to compare my list with Cassidy because he seems to have posted his in NO ORDER WHATSOEVER. (Mine are alphabetical.)

    Cyanide and Happiness
    Amazing SuperPowers
Ask Axe Cop (I don't follow the story strips, just the Q&A strips)
Awkward Zombie (one of my faves)
    Buttersafe (another fave)
Chainsaw Suit (Kris Straub has like 3 other comics, all of which suck ass. Go figure.)
Cleopatra in Spaaace! (which has either ended, or the artist doesn't update anymore. Still, it's in my RSS. So.)
Daisy Owl (BRILLIANT. He hasn't updated in almost a year, with no word on whether it's on hold, cancelled or what. Sad.)
Dawn of Time (sadly stopped, but not concluded. This list is making me depressed.)
Dean's Comic Booth isn't a comic, but it's a site that Photoshops newspaper comics to mock them.
    Dilbert
    Dinosaur Comics
Doghouse Diaries (Eh... in fact I'm going to unfollow this one)
    DUBBLEBABY (Brilliant, barely updates)
    Eat That Toast! (Good shit)
Fake Science (Great premise, crummy execution)
    Garfield Minus Garfield
Gunshow (Brilliant! KCGeep is literally insane, follow his Twitter.)
Hark, A Vagrant! (Rarely updates, author is a huge attention whore, somehow got media attention from almost EVERYBODY for releasing a book while much better comics that update more often are utterly ignored. Fucking media. Also she's from New York but pretends to be from Canada.)
    Least I Could Do (Eh)
Let's Be Friends Again (Eh. Unsubscribing.)
Looking For Group (Eh. Unsubscribing. I was never able to figure out if this was supposed to be funny, or epic, or what the fuck's going on. And the art annoys me.)
Mountain Time (Basically a modern Pokey the Penguin.)
Pearls Before Swine (Although my RSS feed on it is broken... damnit. Ok fixed. This is actually one of the two existent funny newspaper comics.)
Pictures for Sad Children (Hasn't been entertaining in awhile.)
Retail (A newspaper comic which is... better than average.)
    Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal
    Sinfest
Speaks with Monsters (Disappeared at some point-- the web domain now just says "It works!" Yeah well if it works, where's my comic, ass?)
Super Mega (Another Pokey-alike. BRILLIANT. My friends and I laughed over this comic for a SOLID MONTH.
    The Oatmeal
Perry Bible Fellowship (Stopped posting for years, then posted 2 comics, then stopped again.)
Things Could Be Worse (Awesome, hosted on Tumblr so the RSS is spastic.)
    Three Word Phrase (Weird, funny.)
Toothpaste for Dinner (Bland most of the time, once a month or so it blows you away.)
    Wondermark (Skip it most days.)

I also read Non-Adventures of Wonderella, but I don't have it in my RSS since it's only once-a-week.

That's all. I also keep tabs on a horrible, horrible, awful comic which the artist SEEMS to be putting up unironically: Quick Bite Me. Seriously, it's not stylistic suck, it's just suck-- and tons of it.

  • A couple ones I read... some are the same as others

    CAD
    LFG
    Dilbert
    Erfworld
    Order of the Stick
    Girl Genius
    Penny Arcade
    Player vs Player
    Real Life
    SMBC
    xkcd
    Dr McNinja

  • xkcd isn't a webcomic!

Oh, wait, I suppose it is after all... :P

Even better! More environmentally friendly, and can snatch glimpses during quiet times at work. Links saved, ta.

Bonus, since I like to support the artists by getting in a collected edition or two for Christmas and the like. Recognise XKCD and Dilbert (hell, doesn't eveyone?) but the other stuff looks new to me. Ta for the links.

Ditto. Not so keen on Spectate, but I'm guessing the other two are quite discerning in their reading (and our wishes have been granted!)

Erm, do what John? Got me confuzzled with spamcourt, mayhap. Ta for the list; yup I can search, no bother. Hell - some I subscribe to on that list already (Sinfest, Oatmeal).

BTW.. any other Atomic Robo readers seen this? Partially excited at the idea of an animation, but without any dialogue that trailer really makes it out to be another slow-panning manga wankfest. I really hope they don't fuck it up, like so many graphic novels translated to motion picture (which admittedly has been getting less disappointing in more recent years)

Cheers, people. I'm just stepping to another browser tab, I may be some time...

Is there a name for this mental illness?

And yes I did refer to the wrong person. This is because I have to put at least one mistake in every post so that the pedantic dickweeds are happy, and I put in that mistake before I noticed the non-alphabetized list mistake. Also scrolling up is hard.

Spinnerette is quite good, webcomic with some chapters that show up in the books but only preview online (though pretty sure you can buy file copies now too).

Art is good, but after a while I didn't care for the idiot characters any more.

I guess it does depend, I mean part of the point is that the main character doesn't really know how things work while stumbling through establishing herself as a hero.  Plus it gets in some good natured jabs at the way supers comics are generally done.

It's some guy's weird-ass fetish in comic strip form. Ugh.

I know that. You can bumble and learn without being stupid.

Hey, being confused with a real person from time to time is kind of nice. I apologize for not sorting the list but I made that at midnight with a quick and hackish script to extract them from my reader, I just removed the ones that are not in English and went to bed.

A while ago I wanted to perform the n-degree of separation experiment with comics here but lost interest. We are be different in a lot of things but I am surprised about the comics / stories that we read.

    Age?

You will find nodes, super-connected nodes and hyper-connected nodes. There will only be a tiny handful of the last type, say, ~12. Sorting the nodes by connections will yield an exponential graph that looks exactly the same as the filesize distribution of your hard drive, the income distribution graph of any nation, and the playcount values of every track played by your media player.

    Any questions?

Not yet, my knowledge of graph theory is still limited. It's weird, I feel thankful for the education and at the same time I have this sensation that I should apologize for something I posted here.

  • Wow, this thread is great. If I ever find more time to read more comics I'll be sure to return back here.

In the mean time: Wayward Sons and Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic [nudity now and then].

Both comics are updated daily, including weekends, and yet they maintain a good level of writing, drawing and entertainment.
