Tales of Ticket Abuse and weirdness

  • Inspired by JetCityWomen's Post about her ticketing system,  I thought I share an interesting story.  I'd also like to hear tales of ticket misuse from others.

At an old company we had the usually ticket prioritysetup and a VIP field. Tickets were generally assigned a priority by the system.  A priority 1 ticket would automatically cause an office level failover.  All functions would be rerouted out of state to the Chicago office until our office was deemed no longer in business recoverymode.  A VIP Ticket would cause a massive series of alerts to hit all corporate directors and above all the way up to C-level execs and board members (The only people who should ever submit a VIP ticket).

We'll call him John for the sake of the story.  John had put in his notice and it was his last day, when all hell broke lose.  The entire office suddenly failed over to Chicago and we went dark.  As it turned out, John had submitted a priority 1 VIP ticket.  The TCC center down in Tampa saw responded by failing over, and the C-level started calling to find out what happened.

Apparently no one had the forsight to actually read the ticket.  If they had they would have instantly known what happened.  The ticket's content were full of quotes from Sun Tzu and Friedrich Nietzsche.

After this "little" incident it was decided that priority one should be restricted and VIP would also be restricted.

  •  So was it a test ticket, or was it deliberate mischief?

BTW, and off topic, does the "galgo" in your handle refer to the Spanish Greyhounds?  (I have two American greys, but am a big fan of galgo rescue groups.  The galgo situation makes American racing look like Mary Poppins.)

It was John's rather unique way of burning bridges.

As for my name is just a bunch of letters I strung together back in the day for BBS through IRC use.  I also sometimes use bacfeg.

So you are into examples of flesh eating bacteria?

  •  I'm confused.  But sure why not.  Gotta collect em all.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

He went to work for the federal reserve.  The economy crashed two months later....

I guess if by worked you mean it pissed off senior management then yes it did.

Yeah, but did he really mean to? Or was it some kind of accident? Maybe he thought he was playing in a test environment instead of production?

Oh I assure you that he did in fact mean to do this. Corporate had the only access to a test environment for the ticket system.  The grin on his face as he walked out the door was akin to a cheshire cat.

Dude, I totally want access to the test economy. Can someone set me up as a billionaire so I can try making some complex purchases to, er, stress-test the system?
