Setting up to do a comparison run

  • Our fearless team lead (not the boss) was asked to set up two environments, machine A with the old version of our client code, and machine B with the new version of our client code. This way, we can launch the appropriate server, fire up the matching client and do a run. Afterwards, we can compare the output and verify that we didn't break anything.

Unfortunately, this idiot  offshore-developer  team lead puts the new client code on both A and B, then sends an email telling everyone the old client code is on B.Naturally, things are crashing intermittently, depending upon what you are trying to do. Hours later, we finally corner the guy and he asks how the new client code is incompatible with the old server (he was part designer of the new client).

I said it was going to be a fun day...

  • So snoofle, do you actually get any work done or do you spend your entire work day publishing WTFs here?

  • I'm not complaining. I declare it Snoofle Lunch Hour (sorry, I don't have the authority to make it Snoofle Day), and I will bask in the myriad WTFery of past and present.

I get work done. I only publish while I'm irrevocably blocked. This day was a long time coming and I knew there would be non-stop wtf'ery coming once everyone tried to commit months of untested work.

    Besides, it's an outlet.

I wonder, how much work do you get done if you're READING my posts all day long? ;)

I spend a lot of time waiting for my too-old computer to compile stuff, so I usually have a bunch of tabs queued up in my browser for reading material. That might change if my recent request for a new computer gets granted.

The original logo isn't antialiased. You saw fit to add the chips off the type, so I figured you'd agree with me.
