At least it's not a core dump...

  • :belt_onion:

Now I can believe yesterday's feature article. One of my customers experienced a serious problem when trying to apply routine customizations to a template file. I asked that he send me the file (so I could run WinMerge and check all of the changes he made). When I came in today, I found that apparently the file couldn't be e-mailed to me, as it was on a "secure system". Instead, it was printed out, then scanned and sent to me. So I have 29 pages of XML to retype before I can check all the changes (I looked in all the obvious places, and there appear to be no problems).

Well, at least it's not a faxed, hexadecimal representation of a core dump. Though it sure looks like fax quality.

  • But why customers never take a picture on a wooden table?

And why can't they put this on a usb key ?

  • Obviously, it's not secure enough if confidential data can be printed!

I assume their security policy prohibits that.

That was my thought, but then, our customers' security policies are often incongruous. One of our customers couldn't install software we provided because it was on a burned CD, but they could install it having downloaded it from the Internet (albeit from the manufacturer).

  • I think it's time to request Acrobat so you use its OCR capabilites.

I thought about that; I have a personal copy of Acrobat (that I can't use for work, obviously), and I like its OCR capabilities. But I think I'm going to have them go through their changes and some of their logs instead.

It's likely that they're not allowed to put a usb key into the computer without the usb key requiring the exact same level of protection as the computer (its hard drive, etc) itself. You'd have to be able to verify that only acceptable data went onto the usb key. That's a PITA to do, and so generally, you just aren't allowed to do this. It's a lot safer to just disallow that sort of thing than to make sure you absolutely verify stuff like that.

OTOH, with a printout, you can easily confirm exactly what information is there just by visual inspection.

I know you're an apologist, but this is a stretch, don't you think?

Given that I don't actually know who the customer at the end of the line is as I don't have sufficient need to know, it doesn't seem like that much of a stretch to me.

I give this troll negative three stars out of a possible of 12.167 points.

N.B.: Did a mod go berserk on this thread, did Community Server shit itself, or did I do something stupid? A good amount of posts went away.

No, you're right... not only that but your little note went away as well, although maybe you deleted that.

If some mod is deleting the stupid "its/it's" joke, please direct your attention to the 2 page thread full of retarded country name puns. Direct your deletion ire there.

No, I did delete that nota bene; I realized a.) I shouldn't have been able to delete other people's posts accidentally (though I wouldn't be surprised), and b.) I didn't care that much.

I doubt that there is some mod doing this, they are waaaaaay to lazy to do this, and this forums are pretty much unmoderated (which I love) but I second your motion to delete the retarded country puns (as retarded as the music)

So wait, you were doing the deleting? ... considering Community Server that doesn't shock me at all. Anyway, delete mine if you want.

No, I edited my post to remove the N.B. Sorry that wasn't clear.

Usually, requesting some activity be stopped on this forum stimulates the activity in question.

I can only interpret this as a Malawsi attempt to derail this thread with retarded country puns.  I wonder if there Armenia more whom agree...
