  • I tried to sign on to Yahoo because I got an email notification that a Yahoo Group I used to watch received an update-- the first update since (searches email) November 30th, 2004. The above sequence is what happened after I went through the "forgot password" system, then clicked my name where it says "Welcome" at the top left.

So I gave up on that approach, and tried clicking the link in the Yahoo Group email directly:

This email address is currently associated with Yahoo! ID "blakeyrat". By clicking Continue you will change your group Web Access subscription from "blakeyrat" to "blakeyrat@email.com".

There's no "Edit this Membership" button, natch. There is a Continue button, I click it:

I fill in the group preferences, and hit "Join", and I get:

Yes, it's an endless redirect loop.

I got those - they were mostly something about my penis.

What are you allow/deny settings for cookies?

No, I was unchecking the two boxes in the dialog before hitting Continue. I just didn't screenshot the unchecked state.

My allow/deny settings are: "it doesn't fucking matter, because regardless of what they are this website is completely fucking broken".

Hey guess what? It's not my job to fix their fucking-ass website. They can pay me if they want me to dig further into it than this. (But the fact that Pulse and Groups fail to let me log in in entirely different ways leads me to believe: 1) their login code is complete spaghetti, and 2) my login's database entry is hosed somehow.)

I've had to go throgh a similar process to access the "Share This Shit" page. I don't know if this is still the default, but Yahoo group accounts' default setting is "Allow Moderators to Automatically Add Me To Their Group".

Needless to say, as soon as spammers discovered this "Feature", I was added to a ton of groups called [RandomName] INCREASE YO PENIS.

It took me weeks to find out how I was being added (that feature isn't documented anywhere), and more weeks to actually be able to log in, go through a similar processs as Blakey did, just find a page that maybe would let me disabled that feature.

I was a set away from permanently blacklisting all emails from Yahoo groups, but there was still one important mailing list I needed to read.

Did you have a stroke and forget that you're dealing with Yahoo?

The error message said "try again later", I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

I guess by "later" they mean, "when we hire some competent engineers to fix this piece of shit app."
