Just passing along the wife's rant.
-
Wife came home Friday in a bad mood. She's had it up to here with IT. They refuse to believe her bug requests on their new interfaces, resulting in medical report errors going out, deleting needed standard buttons and fields on their new and improved GUI, and now this.
She had been running several medical molecular testing machines on hundreds of patient samples. These things have several highly automated components, and can be very fickle. She was away doing something else when she heard several alarms, and came running to find the computer was throwing up communication errors left, right and center. A surprised looking flunky intern from IT was standing behind the machines, cable ties in hand.
"What did you do?"
"Nothing. I didn't disconnect anything."
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!"
"..."
Turns out PHB thought the cables were unsightly, and ordered IT to tidy them up before a corporate site visit.
She chewed out the IT guy and boss for not waiting until the end of the run. What doofus would start tugging on cables on a medical critical device? Turns out he had been caught the day before trying to do it and was chased away.
She then chewed out PHB for not asking the vendor maintenance guy, who visits weekly, to do it right when he comes in.Anyway, about 400 people are going to get their gonorrhoea and chlamydia tests a couple days late.

And the pregnancy ones?
-
Yeah, in general, never touch a wire if you are not absolutely sure disconnecting it will not be a problem.
-
and even if you are sure make sure to rewire it when the machines the wire is connected to are idle.

Meh. Just cut the test and answer "yes" to all the samples. Quicker fix.

...I just pictured the webapp I wrote a few years back telling people to do that instead of sending the samples into the lab and it made me lol.

yesinconclusive" to all the samples. Quicker fix.if you answer that way they have to pay you for a second test.
that's gotta help the bottom line!

Meh. I like the option that breaks up more marriages.
-
if that's how you get your kicks. i prefer the solution that gets me more money.

Open a divorce attorney practice. Profit!

Open a divorce attorney practice. Profit!
but then i'd have to go to law school or share my wealth with a lawyer. not to mention i'd have to manuever them into using my divorce lawyering service. i'm more likely to get their money if they just have to take the test again. ;-)

No. These machines look for viral DNA.
Of course, some kids I've met just might have viral origins...

I got a totally different read on that, until I was reminded about the Article
