Paper Wasting Game

I wonder if they'll make a multiplayer version so we can finish destroying the forests faster.

  • Ok, it's wasteful, but what a cool idea.

Paper usage doesn't cause deforestation. Hasn't in, what, 50 years now? This is one of those little nuggets people learn as kids from Captain Planet or whatever, and keep repeating. Paper trees are farmed, both because the supply of lumber is more predictable, and the quality of the resulting paper is better.

Deforestation is caused by subsistance farmers clearing land for cultivation. (Primarily; there's also a little desertification.)

This makes those little "please save the planet, don't print this email" badge that idiots put on their emails even more useless than normal. Especially when the person using the badge flies across the country 4 times a year... look up the environmental impact of air travel.

Anyway, this is more of a "Funny Stuff" than a WTF, isn't it?

  • WTF can be good, no?

Wow, look at that guy spinning on his head whilst shitting shards of glass!

    WTF?! (cool)

  •  Can we designate wood based products as the one thing the enviroweenies can't whine about being wasted?  We can make more trees.  Can and do.

i just got this on an email sent to me:

“Keep it green and leave it on the
screen - think before you print”

I love when you print those and the save paper badge gets a page to itself.

I love when you print thousands of copies to fill up 10 reams of paper, then drop it on an endangered koala.

Well, that is one way to move a species out of the 'endangered' category.

I don't think it's going to work. (I haven't actually read the article, so it may just explain that the farms which grow white 80gsm A4 paper sometimes harbour weeds.)

Hah, that's all part of the plan!  It's only one short step from eating honey-fried baby panda and before you know it, you're noshing out on minced manager and chips!

your statement is not ENTIRELY accurate.  there are still some pristine areas being new logged, and paper from virgin timber is preferentially used for certain types of paper that need to be soft.  You are correct on who is doing the majority of it. what is pathetic about that is if those subsistance farmers just practiced stuff like crop rotation they wouldn't need new ground.

that being said - sustainably managed timber is a pretty well done in the US.  Having preserved pristine areas as well as sustainably managed harvest forest = win.
