Beware of Google's flaps

  • While delivering the keynote speech at the Open Mobile Summit in London, Nokia CEO Steven Elop made this ... interesting .. comparison between Apple and Google:

    @Steven Elop said:

    "Apple’s box is closed, of course.  But look at Google’s:  Google’s open box still has flaps, and we don’t know what those flaps will do."

  • I prefer an open box with large outside flaps.

  • He's probably just making fun of a stupid slide some underling made. What was the tone of his statement? Was he dead-serious, or joking around?

    The intent of his remark was (in my opinion) to say "Google portays itself as 'Open' but there's no guarantee that they won't close those flaps and become just as 'Closed' as Apple".  Which is probably a legitimate comment, but I thought his choice of analogy was weird.

    I dunno, I like it. I got that intention immediately, it's funny, it's topical, and it's really the best analogy I can think of for it (well, without getting vulgar)
