    WTFs:

    1) This error appears every time my colleauge opens a PDF in IE8

    2) Despite the error, pdfs do open in the browser immediately after he clicks ok

    1. Doesn't come up in search at all... wow, must be something really weird.

  • As far as I can tell FileOpen is a DRM system with an Adobe Reader plugin, so my guess is that the problem lies with that particular piece of software, not IE.

  •  Do not mess with The Broker

  • Not that I want to get into a contest about Adobe Acrobat Plugin Errors, but this one always came up for me when I opened a PDF in Chrome (this was obviously before they decided to have their own PDF viewer)

Same thing as yours, rad, I would get the error every time I opened a PDF, and the PDF would appear every time.

I get the feeling it's trying to tell me that it has no idea, and nor do I, quite frankly.

FIleOpen is what SAE uses to DRM their downloadable papers; which at least explains what software is causing the problem (and why he has it on his machine).

I have to admit I wanted it to be Microsoft's fault even though I figured it was crappy coding in a useless plug-in related to Acrobat, but I wasn't blaming them - just indicating where the error was appearing.

It's almost never Microsoft's fault. This thread is actually a good metaphor for all computer problems in general... if only Java were involved somehow, we'd have the full picture.

I don't feel like getting drug into one of those "when is it actually MS' fault" threads so, suffice to say, I agree that often the problem (read: coding error) is in the 3rd party code and not with the relevant MS API - it doesn't mean that the interface wasn't crap, just that it wasn't wrong.

  •  I've been experiencing a LOT of sudden-death crashes in FFX4.

The I realized it's all on pages with flash. Sometimes a flash banner. Livestream consistently crashes when I click to a saved stream from a stream's main page.

I thought the new plugin-container.exe was supposed to prevent Flash bugs from crashing the whole browser?

I've noticed something similar in that FF seems to just 'disappear' without any errors or other notification, but I've never been in front of it when it's happened, so can't really say what's caused it. I don't have <font face="monospace">plugin-container.exe</font> though - could it be something to do with my OS not being Windows?

  • ♿ (Parody)

TRWTF is using camel case to communicate with users.

  • PDF is a really stupid format (so is PostScript), especially with all the plug-ins. DVI is better format.
