Don't name yourself me

  •  This morning I found a weird bug trackerupdate in my email... and so did a bunch of others. Look at the econd comment on:

    http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/WI-6497?projectKey=WI

(The bug in that link is not the issue, the fact that *everyone* got the email is.)

  • Yay, everyone is me!

  •  Looks as if they locked the thread.  Basically, everyone whoever posted a bug report got a notification for a ticket, because of a bug where someone registered as username "me".

  • Just says "permission denied." Do you have a screenshot or something?

  • http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/JT-9769 has a pretty clear explanation, but notromda has the gist of it.

    • The default saved search is "Issues reported by me".
    • Many people had notification turned on for this search.
    • Someone registered the username "me" and started reporting issues.
    • All of their issues got sent to everybody who had notification turned on for "Issues reported by me."

    Thank you. That's much better.

Wait...so does that mean that Jetbrains has the issue tracker set up to "SELECT Issue WHERE UserName = '@x'" for any filter named "Issues reported by @x"? I just don't see how this could happen with remotely sane code.

  • Note that, also, in the ticket OP posted, people complained that, from their view, it said that they themselves were the author of the ticket. So when you were logged in and viewed the ticket, it would show your name as the ticket creator. After all, it was created by "me".

(that's at least how I got it; maybe it only said "created by me", but I think that's what they said)

Bah. What's with you non-screenshot-taking people. You knew the bug wouldn't last long. Now I'll never be able to see it. sob

Oh, you saw it too. You share the blame.

Oh do not worry Mr. Blakey, I have been taken for with by a screenshot. Go printscreen! Go printscreen! Go! I stare at a dual wide monitor setup so you'll be able to see the hot anime chick wallpaper on the other screen lolol. It's taking a while to upload the bitmap to this Russian image hosting site I found, but when it's done, I'll show you!!!!

THE PRECEDING PARAGRAPH MIGHT CONTAIN NOTHING IN REALTIONSHIP TO REALITY

Oooookay. I guess I'm not the only one who was coffee-deprived this morning.

I am perpetually coffee-deprived. I don't drink coffee, I don't want to become addicted to caffeine in order to function. On the other hand, some artificial stimulant may have been a good idea on the sleep-deprived morning following a 10 mile hike around a lake in 90 degree heat. On the gripping hand, I am going to bed at 8pm tonight in order to dream about traversing linked hashtables and cyclic tries and transparent flying data oysters and fifty dollar salad luncheon gambling spider-crows held together with twist-ties and tuples.

.</blockquote>TRWFT is in the comments someone suggests that maybe you shouldn't be allowed to create a username like "me" since it is used for searches , but the reply was due to "architecture reasons" it would be too difficult to do that right now so they don't want to be bothered figuring it out. </p>

  • Dunno why, but for some reason this reminds me of one of those times I tried to write a roguelike game...

Oh, let's see, I'll press the numpad 5 key to rest and restore my HP...

You hit the Ed! You die! GAME OVER!

Oh... Crap... I forgot to implement the special case of pressing numpad 5 not being an "attack creature in tile in such-and-such-direction"... and I forgot to give the player any hitpoints, because I'd not yet implemented monsters attacking!

Okay, I'm adding YouTRACK to my list of software to avoid becoming a maintainer of.
