I know Google Maps wtfs are lame, but...

  • I'm trying to figure out how their software made this mistake...

I assumed that the "W Southern Ave" route would simply be the surface streets route, but apparently not. Apparently it means get on the freeway, drive a half mile back up to Southern Ave., turn right, and make a U turn.

The 2nd wtf is that apparently that is only 0.1 miles longer than staying on the freeway, even though Southern Ave. is a half mile from US 60.

  • Whoa! Someone else in Phoenix!

Not sure why it does that - putting in those crossstreets doesn't do the same thing for me.  Could have been because it saw the highway between the on/offramps as undrivable for some reason, so you had to get off, then turn around and get back on.

The first suggested route goes straight down the 60, so I don't think that's it.  It seems more like it calculated the route down Southern Ave., used that for the distance, but for some reason drew the route differently.  Perhaps it used one little point on Southern Ave. as a check point, but miscalculated the best way to get there when drawing the map.

  •  I guess the pathfinding algorithm became a bit... superstitious.

  • Obviously it wants you to stop for pie at Village Inn before proceeding to your destination.

TRWTF is that it doesn't suggest the route that first takes you straight down Country Club to Guadalupe.

.. and then once you start dying from the horrible food, you can skip on over to Banner where they will either:

    A) take your temp and say 105F is just a mild fever and release you

or B) do nothing until your symptoms subside or kill you

or C) treat something unrelated to what you came in for, ignore your actual complaint, and when your insurance runs out transfer you to the first of half a dozen other hospitals elsewhere in the Valley until they too get tired of having you on the books.

(Been four years since my mom went in there for a fatal foot infection.)

  • You have to correct it by making a new Free software/open source map program, where you can have penalties for wasting fuel, penalties for wasting time, penalties based on time of day and weather and traffic, penalties to certain roads, penalties added to points on the map, penalties based on direction, penalties for toll roads, penalties for going through customs, penalties for gas stations, penalties for charging for electric cars, penalties for driving too fast, penalties for in case you are driving too long and have to eat and/or sleep, manual routes, automatic routes, combined manual with automatic routes, editable maps, ordered intermediate points, unordered intermediate points, penalties based on ordering of points, and be able to adjust everything, including to be able to have zero or negative penalties as well as positive, and infinite penalties, varying map sizes, street names and pronounciation of street names, longitude/latitude, and even altitude, different modes of transport (bus, walk, run, car, HOV lane, airplane, train, boat, taxi, skytrain, teleportation, other planets) and everything else like that too.
