Should you 'like' an obituary?

  • Obit WTF

  •  I never liked Danny.

  • I'm a big fan of the obituary writer.  I have a subscription to his newsletter, and "like" pretty much every one.

  • Vind ik leuk

  • It does seem morbid, but I can see some people wanting to share the news of their loved ones passing on the facebook. Unfortunately the button says "like" instead of "share".

  • We need more buttons at least:

    like, dislike, agree, disagree

    but maybe a lot more.

  • 🚽 Regular

Facebook has two options for that button: Like and Recommend. Recommend is probably better for that context, although even then if the obituary was for someone who committed suicide, then you're suggesting they go kill themselves. It's a lose-lose, really.

I'm still waiting for a "Who gives a fuck" button.

    Sounds OK to me.

Agreed, anyone using FB is wasting resources anyways...

    I couldn't be bothered.

Would you disagree that Danny is dead?

  • I am yet to sign up for facebook. Reason being it tracks your posts, your behaviour and everythign you do online. I hate facebook. I also hate Indian newspapers who have succumbed to Mark Zukerburg's marketing and allowed the "I Like" button on all their articles.

There is too much gossip on website of facebook. One collegue of mine got his wedding canceeled becuase girl's parents saw his photo on facebook, drinking bottle of beer.

Here in the states, you wouldn't get your wedding cancelled if your parents-in-law saw a photo of you fucking a bottle of beer.

Well, maybe they hadn't seen a photo before, and the beer was completely incidental?

Here in England, of course, the most important point would be which brand of beer...

They're doing digging here in Seattle for new light rail tracks, and they dug up a 100-year-old Rainier cap. Rainier is Seattle's (historically) home-grown beer. Badass. Edit: link

I'd imagine in England an ice cold beer would be a deal-breaker, however.

And yet you probably LOVE google...

  • Today I saw something that really broke my heart. A web app completely unrelated to Facebook that only accepted Facebook Connect as a sign-in.

Filed under: where the hell is that openid we were promised

Turned out OpenID was developed by a bunch of aspies who never considered things like, say, making it usable by human beings. Or matching the features of competing systems. Or making it work on devices with no browser available.

Incidentally, Twitter's OAuth is only slightly less stupid.

The reason sites use Facebook Connect is because it fucking works. And because Microsoft's LiveID became kind of a bear to develop for.

  • I want a 'spam that game shit to my wall again and I will come to your farmville, torch your crops and infect your cows with BSE' button

  • Is OK in case some people like and other people do not like this.

  • The comic cometh!

    Hotlinking attempt:

    clicks link

sees informative page about the Birkhuhn

    Problem?

Edit: Yeah I know it's about liking it, but it said Birkhuhn in the title so I assumed it will show "derula mag Birkhuhn" for German locales.

  • Does it really show up localized?  If so, that's a pretty funny joke failure on my part.

Can I assume you got the joke anyway?

  • @frits said:

I have not confirmed if it shows up localized on your profile page if you "like" it, since I don't have a Facebook account. But it's localized on the page you linked*.

Got it even before I clicked the link, since the original title is in the URL and I read it right after I read Xyro's post.

    • Partially, at least. The <title> says Black Cock, the heading says Birkhuhn, and the page content is the exact copy from the English Wikipedia page. Because the like button is next to the heading I assumed that this will ultimately be what would show up on my profile page if I had an account.
