Game Idea: What you guys think?

  • Story Line: greates escape artist in world and ancestor of harry hoodini trapped below level of mazes (underground). your job is to help him escape by opening lock and setting traps without killing him. if he dies, harry will not be born later. the fate of hoodini family lie in your fingers.

i plan to design maze after egyptian tomb trap and ancient indian castle traps. spikes / hot oil, poisoned darts / ferocious monkeys.

    ferocious monkeys.

Great idea, go with this, great mutilation scenes plus feeces flinging, watch "Congo"

If you add some quirky humour I'll totally buy it

  • I really liked the parkour trials in the Assassin's Creeds, except for the part where they take away your camera control without telling you. That's just an asshole move on the part of Ubi.

Whenever Dad-dini comes across a creatively designed lock of some kind, you could have the player do a minigame. The problem with most minigames is that they take you to a different interface when you largely just point and click (ex: Fallout 3 Mass Effect 2). This is not desirable. Minigames/puzzle-elements should be properly integrated with the player's normal controls and environments (ex. AssCreed for the most part, Half-Life 2, and of course Portal).

So I guess it could work.

I read the Ramayana long ago, does that count?

I found it very interesting btw.

I should mention that I read a lot and I don't discriminate so...

Glad to know that you're no hater unlike that boris guy in the main page commenting section.

  • You know, I really liked the lockpicking mini-game in the Fallout 3 game... I dunno how well it worked with a computer mouse, but with the Xbox analog controller + rumble, it really gave a realistic impression of digging a hairpin into a lock. The problem is that it lost its challenge pretty quickly, you hit a point where you could either unlock 100% of the time with no problems, or your lockpick skill was so low that the controller literally wasn't sensitive enough to get in the right position to unlock it.

You should also take a look at the lockpicking and trap defusing minigames from Wizardry 8, they were done very very well.

  • Ooo, ooo, and I just thought of this.

If you make a 3D game, it's going to have like different ways of shading polys, right? There's flat shading, Gouraud shading, Phong shading.

What you should do is add Gou'ald shading.

Get it? Get it? Like, when you select Gou'ald shading, everything would look like this:

Like all gold-plated with hieroglyphics on the walls.

It's basically the most brilliant joke I've ever come up with.

  • Get it? Get it? Gouraud? Gou'ald? Because they sound alike! Get it?

  • Garbage Person

Just to spite you, Goa'uld Shading will be an option in this... Thing I'm writing. At the rate I'm progressing, it should be available for your consumption in pre-alpha form in about 10 years.

Spite me? I've never wanted anything more! (Also, I have no idea how I spelled it wrong, I swear I Googled it before writing that...)

Great idea.  And you should code the whole thing in Jaffascript.

  •

  • Jaffascript? Bah, Jabbascript is the way to do it! All the other languages are too lightweight...

Now, if we could just have Xiati shading as an alternate option... Phong shading is so primitive, it can run on an Eee PC, even when Drushocka himself on the Sithrak in the server room and there are Norak left because of the resulting explosion!
