Recruiter fail

  • Got this email today; I'm including the link (nothing wrong with it; seems to be legit, no malware or spam) but it's probably a 2-3 man firm someplace that hired a high school kid to write the website.  It's a job hunting firm.

The WTFs are:  1) I'm not Christopher.  If they're going to grab my email address from Monster/Dice/Careerbuilder, at least they could also grab my real name.  2) their (cough) PHP script substitution needs some substitution. 3) There are only a few of those $75K - 500K jobs left, get one before they're all gone!

Several %industry% and other sector jobs with salaries in the $75K to $500K range are still open.View these postings here.

  • But did they get the Minnesota bit right?

  • No, the job in question was in Andover, Hampshire (UK). Am I right?

And what exactly makes you think that %industry% smells like PHP? Far as I know, PHP has %s for sprintf, or <?=$industry?> as a more template-looking shortcut for the horrid <?php ?> construct. Most PHP "template engines" I've seen use either {industry} or {$industry}.

    A %variable% smells like Windows cmd.exe.

    Also, FTFY.

Also also, +1 on curly braces for PHP.

  • Stob on PHP

Filed under: it smells like php

As if by magic, today's Stob article over on El Reg has this description of PHP:
[ . . . ] PHP, a language that has evolved from Perl's sweepings like an unexpected potato plant found growing in the compost heap [ . . . ]
• %variable% is a pretty common format from what I've seen. The Unix world tends to use $variable or $(variable), but %variable%, {variable} and {$variable} are all common in hacked-together "template engines".

  •  Dear Sir,

I am seeking a %position% in the %industry% field.  I am looking for a salary of at least %dollars%.  Please let me know if there are any job openings in %city%.

    Sincerely,

    %my_name%
