India wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • India has won the cricket world cup after 28 years.

  • Congratulations, was a good tournament, if a bit long. Wonder how Kulasekara feels to have dropped the World Cup. Oh, and Geoff Boycott was a better batsman than Sachin Tendukar :)

Of course not, Geoff was a good player, but for most part he was a narcissistic swaggerer!

He led rebel series, which means he liked aparthide policy of South African government.

  • I was just kidding about Tendulkar, Nag. Now I know for sure that you're really Indian :)

Since you bring it up, though, it's worth noting that Boycs said at the time that he didn't approve of apartheid - he just didn't agree with cutting off sporting links as the best way of fighting it. His point basically amounts to the idea that although it would have been distasteful to do so, by leaving out players based on skin colour for one or two series and continuing to engage with SA, we might have persuaded them much sooner to let touring countries pick whoever they wanted. We'd then have been able to set them a good example in their home country by beating them regularly using players they claimed were no good. At the same time, SA wouldn't have been able to control the opposition team on their away tours, so would consistently be losing to teams with 'black' players.

Even with the benefit of hindsight, it's hard to see which solution was better. Maybe it would have helped end apartheid sooner if the great Windies team of the eighties had toured South Africa - who knows?

  • I will make one point of boycott. He make very good commentary compared to Ravi Shastri (who's big bore) and Sunil Gavaskar.

Is that on TMS? He was commentating for someone else as well during the WC wasn't he?

Thanks to Doordarshan, I only watched Hindi commentary. the commentator was funny. He said
:gendl usne shareer ke undar liya hai: loosely translated as "The bowler has inserted the ball into his body".

I was talkig about general commentary by Boycott. I don't know if he did any during wc. unless he was on espn or starsports.

  • I have not seen any report, although I have heard it when someone else was listening to the radio. By how many runs or wickets did they win by?
