Wizzard Spam

  • This made me laugh pretty hard when our IT department forwarded it:

My IT department didn't bother to neutralize the spam link in it, but I killed it for here (it went to someplace called phishingresearch dot org)

  • Ah, they invoked the spell "dumbassus respondus".

  • 🚽 Regular

I always knew Hermione was up to no good the whole time. I had a similarly hilarious email from a "John Smith" years ago that said something along the lines of, "We need to validate your credit card. Please reply to this email with the following: Full name as it appears on the card, card number, expiration date, card type, SSN, and your full billing address and phone number." You wonder how the people who fall for that ever even managed to get the brain power to sign up for an ISP account in the first place.

  • Phishingresearch is a legit website, It's part of a study on how gullible people are when clicking on links in emails. So not quite a WTF, it just seems they're having fun with their name generation scripts.

  • Very nice!  Anyone know what the CPWP and CHP stand for?

The only results I get from Google for that site is the site itself, and frankly, a site that sends fradulent emails asking for personal information that tells me "This is just for research purposes, your info is safe with us!" doesn't make it any more trustworthy.

CHP is of course California Highway Patrol, along with such lesser goodies as Community Health Plan, Concealed Handgun Permit, Cry Havoc Productions (Venice, California), and Canine Hemangiopericytoma.

All I find for CPWP is Cross-Party Women's Platform, which is apparently some sort of political movement in Tanzania.

  • Trolleybus Mechanic

Reminds me of those "victim compensation fund" emails, along the lines of:

"Since you were recently a victim of an email scam, you are eligible for an IRS refund. Please click here and enter your banking details for direct transfer..."
