A good look at the wtf-ery going on during the Windows Vista development.

Take your time viewing it... it's been /.'d ... maybe tomorrow :P

The site seems to have been Slashdotted into oblivion.

Odd, I got through just fine.
The author is a former Microsoft guy who worked on the Shutdown menu. He basically complains about the many layers of breauracracy at Microsoft and how long it takes for code that he checked in to filter to the rest of the windows development community (i.e. months).

An interesting look inside Microsoft.
I particularly liked the bit about source control - I'm sure we've had a few WTF's here that aren't too far removed from that!
-
Having formerly worked there, this guy is without a doubt a former employee/contractor.
Also, his description of how the source control or the cross group dependencies doesn't begin to paint a picture of how frustrating it can be to get anything done.

It looks like the Merge Day
-
No, the Merge Day involved trying to stuff all levels back into the root repository in a single go. This rant is just about how difficult it is to stay in touch with all the different levels that may be relevant to whatever piece you're working on.
