Plz send teh spam codez

  • So, I was going through posted spam on my blog and saw this:

I've been trying to decide what exactly would lead to this, did they think the box for the spam message would go to tech support? Or are they just spamming "plz send teh captchas".

  • What is it with people using 'pls' instead of 'please' when asking for teh codez? Even if they spell out all other words in the message, it's very often 'pls'.

What I find even odder, is it seems most of the abusers are non-native English speakers, which makes even less sense. Is there an ESL school somewhere that teaches textspeak/13yo-AOLer?

  • ppl use pls bcz it is quite common chat slang, w/ or w/o chat client :D

    Sorry, could not resist.

No telling where that originated. It's being regurgitated by a spambot though, with the payload being in the user name and webpage.

Either way, it's still ridiculous. One of the few things that's more ludicrous and stupid 'cat-speak' (like 'haz cheezburgers') that one sees on or near allegedly amusing or charming photos of cats. Don't get me wrong: I'm fond of cats (after all, they're selfish, spiteful, and aggressive!), but those people are clearly a few bottles short of a case. As are the people who use 'chat-speak' other than in their own little self-important, self-deluded 'chat world.'

But... he has a corm, see? :)

    ... :?

    :(

  •  That one's just fine because it's not a cat.

Is it even allowed to insult lolcats on the internet? The internet runs on pr0n and captioned cats.

The Internet is made of cats!

  •  I had yesterday a package delivered through DHL, with notes written on the card: "pls redel 30th to <address> thx".

I can understand shortening redelivery after writing it on over 9000 packages, but "pls" and "thx"? Sounds like they employ lolcats.

blakeyrat actually speaks fluent lolcat irl.  Ironically, on the internet he seems moderately eloquent.

    Do you program in lolcode?

I was pretty sure we'd already established that, actually; but thanks for the reminder. :)

Currently it's called World of Warcraft. It has had other names like MUD before that.

But... in order to post that message, one would have already had to have gotten teh captcha codez. ??? I'm so confused.

Besides, who on earth would even honor this request? It's kind of like a terrorist going up to a guard at the airport and asking, "pls i can haz pilot uniform and keyz 2 teh plane?"

Or walking up to someone on the street and saying in a thick Russian accent "where are de nooklyar wessels?"

^ This would be funny if it wasn't so sadly true.

  •  I get 'pls' and 'thx' mostly from english-native marketroids, to contribute my data

I worked in a research lab one summer whose director was not a native English speaker. I was very confused when the other students in the lab welcomed me after I settled in and eagerly asked me if I had gotten my "P-L-S come" yet. It turns out that whenever the director wanted to see someone in his office he would send them an instant message reading simply "pls come." It was so consistent that it had become a phrase around the lab: "Dang, I just got a P-L-S, I'll be back later."

Let me disclaim that his lab did fine work and I don't think his colloquial spelling is at all indicative of his intelligence/professionalism. But I agree, where is this chatspeak ESL school?
