Section 508

  • It seems like the department of Justice is violating Section 508 (Accessibility) for seized domains.

Have a look on http://torrent-finder.com/ It's just a graphic, no real text. Can someone (prefferably with a seeing disability) sue them ? Would be fun :-)

  • The <noscript> version even has an empty alt attribute.

  • And it's 440kB of graphic..

  •  "Homeland Security Investigations - Special Agent"? Are you guys serious or did I accidentally wake up inside a CSI episode?

You might say that the domain...

    *dons sunglasses*

     ... got pwnt.

  • But only after a GUI was written in Visual Basic to trace the servers IP which was 212.555.42.12. This had to be done on a very advanced machine which displays the necessary rotating 3D cubes which the programmer must manipulate based on the contents of a garbage file stolen from the Gibson at Ellingson Mineral Corporation. Because programming requires to concentration whatsoever, it is customarily performed while having a gun held to your head during the reception of oral sex. The real WTF here is that none of this was really necessary because 15 minutes earlier Trinity used NMap to reveal the real IP address which when connected to on port 6666 with the username Joshua can be used to launch a Global Thermonuclear War simulation which will become self-aware. To destroy this the intervention of several terminators and a robotic policeman that runs DOS will be required.

While the self-aware simulation will be terminated, Ripley will be required to intervene in order to overcome SkyNet which will have lodged itself firmly in the anals of our most secret defense systems. Upon these systems it has installed a slightly modified version of Bonzi Buddy to destroy any "malfunctioning" programs and ensure the rise of Clippy, our great leader.

You'll find that Swordfish is a classic parody-of-itself.

I recommend you go see it.

Only if it has explicit scenes will I see it again.

For the record I hate movies with hackers flicks on it and Swordfish seems totally forgetable (I don't even remember the plot and I'm not googling it now)

Also @ender that is some evil post there, do you know how much psychotherapy I went through to get over that thing, please no more

why are people so angered by a feature that was trivial to turn off?

Because most people don't engage in new software with the starting mindset of "Good. Now what can I do woth this and how can I customize it?"

Mostly, their mindsets are like, "Shit, htf am I supposed to use this."

It's like goatse; once seen, it cannot be unseen. Only in this case it's "once monumentally patronised, you cannot be un-monumentally-patronised".

It looks like you're trying to formulate an intelligent answer, but are unable to think fast enough. Would you like help with that?

Also, when you're doing support, you can't go turning it off on all the users' machines.

Or if you're at school and use a different machine in a different lab every day, you can turn them off all you want and it doesn't help.

Well, I was mildly joking, so...

Anyway as others point out from a user standpoint I don't mind as is easy to turn off and when I was really bored I watched all the animations and whatnot but from a programmer standpoint it was crap and from a support standpoint it was useless crap and simply annoying in my humble opinion.  Perhaps someone like it, perhaps even found it useful, I haven't met that person yet.

Tons of people liked Clippy (and the other office assistants). By all metrics other than "what Slashdot thinks", the feature was a success. That's why it stuck around so long.

Never even read Slashdot, perhaps I'll check it out sometime if I ever have the time, I certainly need to make more aquaintances as I sincerely don't know a person that liked it or used it, but if it was that great they would have kept it longer.  If the criteria "they kept for a while so people must have liked it" is valid then Lotus Notes is a great software and tons of people liked the oh so many quirks that make it shine.

I believe it has Halle Berry's boobies IIRC, not "explicit" per-se but at least slightly gratuitous.

I'll take it, that and colorful explosions are what great films are about.  Software should be like that too, sexy, explosive and expensive and we should be grossly overpaid and famous.

I dunno; I think serguey would love it. He comes across as the perfect Slashdotter.

Not so sure about that, I think I'm too much of a geeky snob to like other lesser geeky snob and lack the social skills to fool them into thinking I like them.

If you enumerate the characteristic of a perfect Slashdotter I will tell you which fit me

IIRC The plot of swordfish went something like this:

Dude terrorizes some public place with a bunch of EPIC pipe bombs attched to a hostage or somethnig; EPIC pipe bombs as in 1" Steel shot, and like a shit-ton of whatever explosive name was in vouge at the time probably C4.

<Producers fire all the writers and hire hacks to complete the movie>

    ...

convoluted hacking scene that looks like powerpoint. random gun to head / pornstar blowjob thrown in for good measure

    ...

    tits

    ...

Somethnig about encryption, they just start yelling larger and large numbers (seriosly find the quote its hillaryhoose).

    ...

<producers fire the hacks and hire retarted monkeys to finish the movie>

... wtf? this movie it doesn't make any sense ...

uhhh, that scene was the definition of gratuitous, there was nothing slight about it; see sense 1.
