Original prize competition

  •  Not sure if it's called that way in english, but anyways... In my country, it's quite common to have various "send code found on/in product package by SMS to (maybe) win" competitions... To the point that pretty much every time you buy something (snickers/mars kind of snack, beverages, alcoholic drinks...), there's usually some kind of this thing.

I bought a beer, and offcourse, there's this prize competition, saying something like "Under the cap you'll find a code. Send it to number.... to (maybe) win."

Pity that it's a beer can.

  •  Nominated for the mug!

  •  Nothing on the inside?

  • should be on the thingee you lift to open the can, don't know what it's called in english

  •  Usually it's just called the "tab" (not to be confused with the drink Tab or the 80s) or "pulltab", but I don't know what it's called in Klingon.

  •  Picture?

The 'thingee' is called a ring-pull (as in: 'ring-pull can') in the UK. I don't know whether the 'Merkins have a different name for it.

Ah, very familiar. Under the cap of every third half-litre bottle of vodka... a half-litre of vodka!

How do you print a code and SMS number on the tab?

"Grab an electron scanning microscope, then send your entry in!"

Maybe it's on the underside of the elliptical piece of the top of the can that gets folded in when you open it. They really make you work for these things.

    That would be awesome.

nope, only thing on that "tab" is a punched hole that pretty much makes it have no usable surface.

This is 2010 - use an atomic force microscope!  Then you can also draw your name on it in aluminum atoms.

If I didn't find a half-litre of vodka under the cap of every half-litre bottle of vodka I bought, I'd be pretty upset.

  • Haven't you seen Futurama? The winning can will have a bottle cap inside.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

Not that, even if the hole hasn't been punched, there's a great deal of space.

  • When they have those competitions here, usually for cans the code is printed on the (inside) base of the can, so you can see it after you've drunk the contents. And technically it is under the ring-pull tab, just not immediately under it :)
