Plain TeX

  • Plain TeX is more better than LaTeX. I have used both. I also think Enhanced CWEB is good. What is your opinion?

  • Garbage Person

TeX and/or LaTeX is one of those things that I keep telling myself I should learn because it would be really useful.

And then I remember that I'm still sane and open up Microsoft Word.

  • Microsoft Word? Microsoft Word is very bloated software. I don't like WYSIWYG systems. Plain TeX is more better than Microsoft Word! TeX really is useful, at least I find it useful and that a lot of things can be made with it.

  •  Meh.

Being able to just type your shit and get on with it is better than having to think about code constantly.

I mean, the editor on this forum is bloaty, but Ctrl+B is far more comfortable than typing B or STRONG tags.

I think you would be well served by Microsoft Word's grammer checker ;)

  • TeX? That's only for PerfectPerfects, the average Joe has no need for it. M$ Word? That's a closed-in format!  If you really want to share knowledge, save everything as JPG screen shots and noodle jam jam alien hunter magic medicine stone white hood dinosaur noodle

I turned off the WYSIWYG editor on this forum.

(Perhaps if you do not like the code constantly, you can use WYSIWYG and other software, but I find typing the codes is more better and can make more powerful codes.)

I suppose you are correct about this. (Still, that doesn't mean I don't have a need for TeX. I like to use TeX it is a good system.)

I suppose you are correct about this. (In addition, Microsoft Office is a very bloated software.)

But this is clearly wrong and nonsense.

    Not everybody thinks so.

How, exactly, is Microsoft Word making a DAMN BIT OF DIFFERENCE to my system under the following typical workload?

This isn't 1995 anymore. Software is bloating a damn sight slower than hardware bloat. That crap there is 25% of my memory and near as makes no difference NO CPU.

No wonder people code in Word, if I had the option between Word and a glorified text editor that used 7 times the memory I'd probably use Word. However, it looks like Wordpad is slightly better, so I'd probably use that instead.

That was the most nonsensical thing I've ever read and I love it.

I was actually ranting about VS 2010. I guess my attempt at subtelty failled.

  • Garbage Person

Nah, I got that much. But still, in the grand scheme of things, if your employer isn't forking over quadcore machines with a couple of gigs of RAM, they aren't interested in the developer experience anyway.

I have to provide my own workstation. But it never actually touches the production network, so not much reason too I guess.

  • Garbage Person

As a woefully independent contractor, so do I. But I get my clients to fork out for all sorts of fun software that makes my life easier (and which they typically don't even understand.)

I was all like "what, he's totally not running emacs you jerk!"

Then I went and talked to eliza about it.
