  • I spent some time in France awhile ago and somehow ended up on TF1's mailing list, which is a tv channel over there. They've been sending me mail from time to time, and each time I get one (for the most part) i click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the message and go through the motions to unsubscribe. TF1 even sends me a nice "confirmation of unsubscribing" message each time I do. Yet a few days/weeks after that, I get yet another e-mail from them.

Maybe the fifth time's the charm....

    emailinbox

(for those of you that don't know french/couldn't guess... "Confirmation de votre désabonnement" is something like confirmation of your unsubscription... if that were a word in english)

  • Did you at least check what they gave you for your birthday?

Just checked and I got 5 free plays of one of their flash games. apparently they charge for these things normally... how un-american

In the US you would know it was not free only when you get the bill, go to trial, etc ?

  • "Unsubscribe" is spamese for "Confirm this address is active so we can send more spam/sell it to other spammers". There may be some interesting legalities relating to a false unsubscription confirmation, but I'm sure it's "just a glitch" and you'll be "removed immediately" if you actually complain - from that one list.

Wait ... It seems that the mailing tool we use for every of our clients does that !

He He, great scammers usually thinks alike !

  • No, I don't want to play with Jean-Pierre Foucault to get my "TV candidate" place

No, I don't want to live the World Cup *live* on TF1.fr

No, I don't want to test my soccer culture

No, I don't want to watch France - South Africa *live*, neither do I want to watch *Secret Story* 4, Bola, Michael Jackson or Lady Gaga (God forbid!)

No, I don't want my last chance to win a Hyundai car

No, I don't want to assign a secret to two *Secret Story* candidates

And no, I don't want a birthday present from you

(stuff between asterisks is in English originally)

The kind of message doesn't surprise me from those people (TF1 is considered borderline trash TV, and sensationalistic news. Not as bad as Faux News AFAICT, but not far), however the fact they won't unsubscribe you a bit more. It's as if unsubscribing works at first, but then after some time you get subscribed again somehow.

Actual Fox News, or the Internet's strange stereotype of Fox News?

    And the difference would be...?

If you read only the Internet chatter about Fox News, you'd assume that a re-animated Hitler was the programming director.

As opposed to the actual Fox News, in which he is merely a news anchor commentator.

  • Ouch, I don't want to start a flamewar. I meant actual Fox News.

Oh, don't be stupid. No one thinks that.

Everyone knows that it was actually Sean Hannity that slaughtered six million Jews in the 1930s and 40s, though.

Nah.  Let's fight about keyboard keys instead.

OK, so what does the shift key shift? Why don't aI get the tab when I press the tab key (repeatedly I might add)?

But more importantly, why doesn't bloody Fox News report any of this?!
