I found out a few days ago that one of Brazil's biggest ISP's is going to use Phorm. It's the one that provided me with internet access through 3G via my phone, but since then I've stopped using it.
Then I found out that the two largest ISP's around are going to use Phorm too.
Ever since last week, some government departments and the justice are demanding lots of explanations. It's fun seeing the ISPs' executives promising that their customers will be involved in the implementation process and that they will be informed about how their mined data is going to be used. Funnier yet is seeing a representative from Phorm swearing that they won't commit here the same mistakes that they made in the UK. And truly they aren't making the same mistakes, they're making novel, worse ones.
I hope Phorm loses a few hundreds of millions of Euros here too and takes at least one of the ISP's together with it, if only to serve as a bloody example.

least one of the ISP's together with it[/quote]I seem to recall reading (probably The Reg. but won't swear to it) is that the reason they're over there is because they lost so much PR (and, more importantly capital/share price) over the debacle of monitoriing BT's customers in (unproved and untested - and I suspect it shall remain so, sadly) contravention of RIPA. Amongst other crap they tried to pull. And their lack of being able to spin a horror story into bad news.

Phorm will shift some of its operations from London to Brazil to save money after announcing another heavy loss for 2009.
The web monitoring and profiling firm lost $29.7m last year, it told investors today. That's down from $49.8m in 2008, mainly thanks to layoffs at the beginning of 2009.
Phorm also said it may seek more funding in Brazil, where its only ISP partner, Oi, is based. It believes its stock price in London, massively down in the last two years, "does not adequately reflect the nature of the global opportunity that we face", and that seeking local cash will be better value to shareholders.

In the UK, where Phorm's problems began, prosecutors continue to consider a criminal case over its secret trials with BT. Meanwhile, the European Commission is still threatening to sue the British government after the controversy exposed loopholes in its implementation of privacy laws.

So why is it that they seem to be missing the obvious strategic partner? Australia would EAT THIS SHIT UP.
