Slight Turbulence

  • An extremely cool error message while geeking around with Google Wave:

This wave is experiencing some slight turbulence and may explode. If you don't want to explode please reopen the wave. Some recent changes may not be saved.

I decided I did not want to explode.

  • Also, you may not bring grenades.  (No, the quote is not exact, but close enough that it's probably not an accident).

  •  Waves don't explode, they collapse.   Hasn't anybody actually read Schrödinger?

    +1 physics pedantry.

There's like, plenty of headroom within quantum physics to be at least marginally correct AND make it a witty pun.

    Probably. Or not.

  • I don't believe in Schrödinger's books. I've never seen one.

Wasn't he the guy that couldn't figure out whether his cat was lolling or not?

What an idiot.  Just give it a cheezburger.

Actually he was the one who had fantasies about torturing cats with hydrocyanic acid and nuclear rube goldberg devices.

  •  Whee, they kept the Firefly error messages around in the public Wave! I still like this one, though, which I think may be gone.

I'm afraid if I read his papers I'll change them.

Ever read Heisenberg?  If you know how fast you're reading, the page numbers disappear.

It was accurate until you quantified it.

Also brings to mind the physicist's answer when pulled over by the police. "Do you know how fast you were going, sir?" "No, but I know where I was." And then there's the Iain Banks hero, pulled over and asked "Is this your car?" who replies "I thought you only did this to black people." Er. Where was I? Can't remember. Know I was stationary relative to the earth at the time.
