7

  • Okay, so I don't use Aero in Vista because it drives me mad with blinkenden lights and also because [modal] dialogs don't gain focus when you alt-tab to an app which has one open. Examples are the colorpicker in photoshop, the search dialog in your text edtor, etc etc etc. It probably varies for some apps do to their windowing implementation. It is most annoying since one can't tap Esc to instantly dismiss a dialog when it doesn't have focus.

Can anyone confirm this for 7? I mean, Classic shell in 7 seriously looks like ass, with the super taskbar. It would be nice if a practical objection didn't force me to use a shell that looks like ass.

Nitpicking naggy bitches inquiring minds want to know.

  • Windows 7, notepad, Go To Line modal dialog open, Alt-Tabbing gives focus to the Go To Line window. Same for Notepad++. Don't have Photoshop here to test it.

Just test it with GIMP, but switch your mouse to the opposite hand and only type with your pinkies.  That's pretty much the same thing.

  • I don't recall ever having the focus problem in Vista.  I have been running Win7 for about 6 months now, and I've never had that problem in Win7 either.  I did test Photoshop CS3 on Win7 and it does exhibit the behavior you described, but SQL Management Studio works as expected.

  • I have configured Windows 7 systems for some people (the computer already has the operating system installed, but it wasn't configured, and I needed to do so). I noticed that the "ver" command does not tell you version 7

I see that a slightly more comprehensive test is required on my part.

    Next time, Gadget, next time.

I wouldn't bother with cs3 on win 7.  Doesn't really work that great.  I use cs4 extended right now but wil soon upgrade to cs5.  before cs4 I believe that 32 bit was your only option.  cs4 was the first 64 bit version.  Plus cs4's features are leaps and bounds over cs3.

Unless you can link smart objects to external files, and Smart Filters have been reimplemented as adjustment layers (as they SHOULD be) instead of that fucked concept of Smart Object Filters, then I find your claim a dubious one.
